This week saw four fresh day-one games added to Xbox Game Pass, along with one classic RPG that evokes fond PS2 memories. However, it’s important to note that this particular PS2 title was a late release, having been launched in 2008 – two years after the PS3 hit the market. As a result, many may have missed its initial release, but thanks to its subsequent availability on contemporary platforms like modern Xbox systems, more gamers can now enjoy it.
The game we’re discussing is called “Persona 4 Golden,” an enhanced variant of the original “Persona 4.” This game made its way onto Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X in 2023. Interestingly, Persona 4 Golden was previously offered on Xbox Game Pass when it debuted on these platforms. However, it was taken off the subscription service at the beginning of 2024 and hasn’t returned since – that is, until now.
One of the Best RPGs of All Time
Based on its impressive Metacritic score of 93, Persona 4 stands out as not only one of the greatest role-playing games ever made, but also one of the best games overall from its console generation. However, whether it’s the best game in the Persona series is a topic of much debate, with many preferring Persona 5. For those unfamiliar, despite being named “4,” it’s actually the fifth main installment in the series, which belongs to the larger Megami Tensei franchise. Similar to other games in the series, it blends role-playing mechanics, life simulation gameplay, and turn-based combat to create a truly distinctive gaming experience within the genre.
Upcoming Remake
It’s important to mention that Atlus is currently working on a remake of the game Persona 4, which they plan to release some time between April 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027. This upcoming remake, titled Persona 4 Revival, will offer a more modernized and visually appealing version of the classic RPG for those willing to wait until then. Notably, this new version will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch, similar to how Persona 4 Golden was in 2023. For those who can’t wait that long, rest assured that the original game remains excellent.
