Microsoft has brought two classic Electronic Arts games from the early 2000s to Xbox Game Pass. EA has been a major force in gaming since 1982, and remained a top developer then as they are today—many consider the 2000s to be their golden age. Currently, however, these new additions are only available to Game Pass subscribers on PC.
Microsoft unexpectedly added the original The Sims and The Sims 2 to Xbox Game Pass for PC. Now, all four main Sims games are available through the Microsoft subscription service, as The Sims 3 and The Sims 4 were already included.
Old, But the Best Games in the EA Series
The Sims series started incredibly strong. The original Sims, released in 2000, received a score of 92 on Metacritic and was considered one of the best games of the year. The Sims 2 continued this success in 2004, earning a 90 on Metacritic and similar praise. While The Sims 3 in 2009 still scored well with an 86, it marked a slight dip. The series then began to struggle with The Sims 4 in 2014, which only received a score of 70.
It’s odd that Xbox and Electronic Arts haven’t promoted the recent addition of these games – which now include all previously released downloadable content. It’s likely because they’re only available through EA Play, specifically for those with the Ultimate subscription. Regardless, these are fantastic additions for anyone who remembers playing them on PC. While both games did eventually come to consoles, those versions were different and generally considered much worse than the PC originals.
Because these games are part of EA Play, they’ll always be included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Plus, Game Pass subscribers can now buy them individually with a permanent 20% discount.
