Xbox Game Pass is having an incredible year in 2025. The three top-rated games of the year have all been available to subscribers since they first launched, and the service hasn’t lost many popular titles. Most games that have left Game Pass were older or less significant. However, one of its best horror games might be leaving just before Halloween.
Xbox Game Pass subscribers hoping to play *Inscryption* this Halloween might want to have a backup plan. The popular 2021 roguelike deck-builder is potentially leaving the Game Pass library in October, though this hasn’t been officially confirmed. However, there are strong indications that it could happen.
Why It Might Be Leaving
The popular game *Inscryption* was added to Xbox Game Pass in October 2024. Games on Game Pass usually stay for either one or two years, though contracts can sometimes be longer or, rarely, shorter. While contracts can be renewed if a game is popular, *Inscryption*’s time on the service might end next month. If you’ve been wanting to play it, it’s best to do so soon, as Microsoft typically only gives players two weeks’ notice before a game is removed from Game Pass.
About the Game
Developed by Daniel Mullin Games, the creators of *Pony Island* and *The Hex*, and published by Devolver Digital, *Inscryption* first launched in 2021 but came to Xbox consoles in 2023. The game has received critical acclaim, earning an 87 on Metacritic and nominations for awards at The Game Awards. It’s also been popular with PlayStation Plus members. Many consider *Inscryption* to be one of the best horror games of the 2020s, particularly among independent titles.
This game blends deck-building, rogue-like elements, psychological horror, and escape-room puzzles. You collect cards featuring woodland creatures while uncovering the mysteries hidden within Leshy’s cabin, embarking on a journey the creators call both surprising and unsettling.
