For Xbox, enabling gameplay from any location has been a significant focus over the past few years. The Xbox team has been diligently breaking down barriers between console, PC, and mobile gaming, aiming to provide gamers with increased accessibility to their favorite games. Last year, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate introduced a cloud streaming feature for digital games owned by subscribers. This was a significant shift, allowing players more flexibility to enjoy their game library on devices such as smartphones and Meta Quest devices. Now, Xbox is pushing the boundaries even further, permitting Xbox Insiders in the PC Gaming Preview to stream console-owned games directly to their PCs.
This inclusion offers numerous advantages, and sometimes it’s impractical to access the console directly. Streaming certain games on PC can be more convenient compared to playing them on mobile devices. Streaming provides the benefit of sparing storage space on your computer. Moreover, this feature will enable Xbox Game Pass PC users to play games that are typically exclusive to consoles. Although many Xbox games have already been made available for PC, this is still a significant development. Apart from gaining access to previously console-exclusive titles, the ability to stream games anywhere enhances freedom in choosing how and where to enjoy your favorite games.
At present, over 250 console games are available for streaming on your PC. This selection is quite varied and features new titles like “Final Fantasy XVI” and “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind”. Additionally, some older Xbox 360 games such as the first “LEGO Batman” and “Saint’s Row 2” are also included. The list also encompasses different versions of certain games, for instance, various editions of “Star Wars Outlaws”, including the standard, gold edition, and ultimate editions.
Currently, Xbox Insiders in 28 countries have the opportunity to stream games they own directly through their Xbox PC app. For a complete list of compatible titles, visit Xbox’s official website. However, it appears that this feature only works for those who digitally own these games. Those who prefer physical copies will not be able to stream them on other devices at this time, which may leave some Xbox users feeling frustrated as they continue to purchase physical games.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m eagerly anticipating the rollout of this new feature on PC, but being part of the Xbox Insider program gives me a unique opportunity to share my thoughts about the user experience. Here’s hoping that feedback from us insiders will help shape its development and eventually lead to an even better, smoother, and more enjoyable gaming experience for all Xbox users!
