Xbox has a partner preview event slated for November, with Xbox Play Anywhere as the headline act

It feels like the Xbox we knew is gone, but a new version is emerging! I expect to be saying that a lot in the coming year.

Oops, I got a little off track! Hi everyone, and welcome! Today I’m sharing the latest news about what Xbox has planned for the next few months. Even though there’s been talk about Xbox shutting down, we’ve received reliable information about exciting things coming to the Xbox world.

Microsoft and its Xbox division have faced a lot of challenges recently. Between layoffs, studio shutdowns, price increases, and reports of overly ambitious profit goals, Xbox has been in the news for negative reasons. This has unfortunately overshadowed the success of its game studios, which have released several well-received titles like Ninja Gaiden 4, Keeper, and The Outer Worlds 2, all earning high scores on Metacritic in recent months.

Even with recent challenges, Xbox is continuing to move forward and plans to host several events in the coming months to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to the gaming community.

November Xbox Partner Preview, December Game Awards, January Developer_Direct

In my latest article, I discussed the future of Xbox, explaining that fans have several exciting announcements and updates to anticipate in the near future for the Xbox platform.

Tomorrow, October 28, 2025, IGN will host an ID@Xbox showcase. Expect a lot of news about Xbox Play Anywhere, plus exciting announcements for Xbox Game Pass, cloud gaming, and games on Xbox Series X|S consoles and PC.

We’ve learned from reliable sources that Microsoft is planning an Xbox Partner Preview event in November. This event, which was recently confirmed, will highlight games from Microsoft’s publishing partners – both large and small studios. The focus will be almost entirely on Xbox Play Anywhere titles, meaning games you can play on both Xbox and PC.

Microsoft is strongly encouraging developers to create games for its PC and Xbox platforms, particularly through the Xbox Play Anywhere program. The company anticipates this will become the standard way to release games on Xbox consoles. Developers are becoming more enthusiastic about this, especially with the surprisingly strong sales of the Xbox handheld device, the Ally.

Xbox will also be at The Game Awards on December 11, 2025, though it’s unclear exactly what they’ll show. Microsoft might reveal new gameplay, updates on their gaming ecosystem, or even new hardware. They have a lot of games currently in development – more than 40, in fact! We could see more of titles like Fable and State of Decay 3, or even completely new games that haven’t been announced yet.

In January, we’re anticipating the Xbox Developer_Direct event. This is likely where Microsoft will reveal more about its biggest games planned for 2026, such as Fable, Forza Horizon 6, Gears E-Day, and a new Halo installment, currently known as Halo: Campaign Evolved. Microsoft sometimes uses this event to also highlight games from its partner developers.

To mark Xbox’s 25th anniversary, Microsoft is releasing new games in four of its most beloved and long-running series.

Xbox is dead, long live Xbox!

Recently, Xbox hasn’t been getting as much attention on social media, but the service itself is still performing well. They currently have one of their best lineups of games ever, and Xbox Game Pass had a particularly strong year with lots of great content.

Microsoft has faced some challenges this year, and likely will continue to, but things are looking up for both the company and its users. They’re pleased with how popular the Xbox Play Anywhere feature has become – allowing players to buy a game once and play it on both Xbox and PC. Also, their initial attempt at having other companies build Xbox consoles is going better than anticipated.

We’re also really looking forward to new games from studios like Double Fine, inXile, Machine Games, and Bethesda, among others. They’re all developing titles that could appeal to a wide range of players.

The next Xbox seems poised to be more versatile and offer a wider range of games, thanks to its connection with Windows PCs, which is encouraging despite recent challenges. However, Microsoft has a history of changing direction, and current issues like trade tariffs and the intense focus on artificial intelligence are creating distractions.

We have a lot to be excited about right now, and the future looks promising too. However, success will depend on how well we carry out our plans.
