So, the Xbox Developer_Direct from earlier this year went really well, and now I’m hearing rumors Microsoft might do another one later this year! I was listening to the Xbox Two podcast, and Windows Central’s Jez Corden said he’s heard they’re actually looking into it. Hopefully, it happens – more deep dives into upcoming games are always awesome!
James Corden and his co-host talked about the games revealed last week—including Fable, Forza Horizon 6, Beast of Reincarnation, and Kiln—and then mentioned that more game showcases are planned for later this year. Corden also hinted that Microsoft is holding back quite a bit of content that they haven’t revealed yet.
James Corden mentioned he’s heard rumors of another Developer Direct event happening later this year. While the timing is uncertain, he believes there’s ‘a good amount of stuff’ they want to showcase, and he’s been directly told they’re considering it.
They also talked about the format of the next presentation – whether it would be like the recent Developer_Direct, which focused on games from Xbox and its studios, or more like past Xbox showcases that highlighted games from other companies. They mentioned a planned showcase from March of last year that was cancelled, and how it was originally intended to be where the Xbox versions of Final Fantasy would be revealed.
Both of them were really impressed with the Developer_Direct showcase. Corden specifically said he was pleasantly surprised by everything he saw, and he highlighted Beast of Reincarnation as being a particularly good surprise.
Xbox Developer_Direct 2026 offered a detailed first look at Game Freak’s Beast of Reincarnation. Developers shared in-depth information about the game’s story, gameplay, and how players will progress. The main character, Emma, will journey through a futuristic Japan set in the year 4062 AD with her wolf companion, Koo. Gameplay combines fast-paced action combat with RPG elements like a skill tree, and players can even teach Koo new abilities.
Kito Furushima, the game’s director, has revealed that Beast of Reincarnation is being created by a small team within Game Freak, with help from several partner companies. He explained that the combined team, including those from the partner studios, is actually quite sizable.
As you’d expect, the development team is quite big, but it’s not just people who work directly at Game Freak. We brought in a lot of help from partner companies and studios – they were able to bring our vision for the game to life in the way we imagined, so we’re fortunate to have so many people contributing from outside the company as well.
I was super hyped to see what else was revealed, and honestly, the details on the new games are awesome. They showed off the morality system in the new Fable, which looks really interesting. Then there’s Forza Horizon 6, and it’s set in Japan – seriously, Japan! And get this, Double Fine is making a party brawler called Kiln where you basically fight with pottery – how cool is that?
