Xbox reveals first detailed look at Beast of Reincarnation — a new action-adventure IP by the creators of Pokémon, coming soon in Summer 2026

At Microsoft’s Xbox Developer Direct in January 2026, Game Freak—the well-known studio famous for Pokémon—revealed Beast of Reincarnation, a new action-adventure game scheduled to release on Xbox later in 2026 during the summer.

The game takes place in Japan, but far in the future – the year 4026 – after a devastating apocalypse. A plant-based parasite called “Blight” has killed most of humanity, and the remaining wildlife has been twisted into terrifying creatures known as Malefacts.

You take on the role of Emma, a young woman who has mysteriously stopped the spread of the ‘blight’ and now has special abilities to fight against the Malefacts.

Emma and her unusual dog, Koo, embark on a global journey to stop the Beast of Reincarnation from destroying the Capital, one of the last safe places for humans. Along the way, she hopes to find a permanent cure for the mysterious illness known as the “Blight.”

Beast of Reincarnation is an action-adventure game focused on exploration and combat. You play as Emma, using her special abilities to navigate challenging landscapes and battle waves of enemies.

Players can defend themselves in battle using sword combinations, blocks, and a temporary slowdown ability to unleash powerful attacks called Blooming Arts – a combat style inspired by Final Fantasy VII Remake.

This slowdown ability also lets you tell Roo to restrain enemies or use powerful area attacks to quickly defeat groups, giving you a chance to regroup and strategize.

You’ll have to learn these skills fast, because the game throws you into tough battles against powerful bosses known as Nushi.

These creatures are incredibly powerful and significantly impact their environment. Overcoming them requires both clever planning and forceful action, and doing so will unlock new abilities.

Will you save the world from the Blight?

Emma and Koo will meet dangerous stone creatures called Golems, as well as helpful survivors named Brad and Kagura. They’ll also cross paths with Kunai, a skilled swordfighter who is working with a powerful enemy known as a Malefact.
