The Xbox Series X is Microsoft’s high-end console from the latest generation, and it’s been available since November 10, 2020. It’s built for 4K TVs, offering features like HDR and VRR, and aims to deliver smooth gameplay at 60 frames per second.
When the Xbox Series X launched, Microsoft highlighted features like ray-traced lighting, but most game developers haven’t fully embraced this demanding technology. While the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are still powerful consoles offering good value, gaming PCs have quickly surpassed them in terms of graphics capabilities. This happened even with the price increases caused by tariffs implemented during President Trump’s administration.
The Xbox Series X uses a powerful custom processor with 8 cores, delivering impressive graphics performance with its RDNA 2 architecture. This allows it to run games at up to 120 frames per second, as seen in popular titles like Call of Duty and Overwatch 2. A key feature of the Xbox is Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which gives subscribers immediate access to all first-party Xbox games and a wide selection of other popular titles.
The Xbox Series X hasn’t sold as well as the PlayStation 5, largely because of problems getting it into stores, a shortage of must-have games that you can’t play anywhere else, and lingering negative feelings from the previous Xbox One. The next Xbox is planned to run full Windows, which could allow games from stores like Steam and lessen the importance of exclusive titles. It remains to be seen if Microsoft can successfully execute its plans for the Xbox, as many are closely watching their hardware development.
