A game exclusive to Xbox Series X and S, developed by Xbox Game Studios, which was last seen during its initial reveal and sparked rumors of its cancellation, is actually still in development. Contrary to speculation that suggested the game met its end in recent Xbox layoffs, this project seems to be thriving. Despite the silence surrounding the game’s whereabouts, some assumed it might have been cancelled or on the brink of being cancelled, but unreported news. However, the developer working on this game is actively hiring for the project, indicating that it is not only alive but also moving forward.
The game under discussion was initially revealed by Avalanche Studios and Xbox Game Studios on June 13, 2021. It’s exclusive to the Xbox Series X|S, although it will also be available for PC. For those unaware, Avalanche Studios is primarily recognized for the Just Cause series, but they have created other games since their establishment in 2003. Their current project is Contraband, a cooperative smuggler game, which is not a new installment of the Just Cause series.
After four years since the game’s announcement, there has been little news about it, leading one to assume that the project might have been quietly cancelled, as sometimes happens with games. Yet, the studio continues to hire for the game, which suggests that it may still be in development. The reason behind the delay in its completion, however, remains unclear.
As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled to share that the studio is currently on a recruitment spree for their upcoming game. What catches my eye is their focus on filling senior and lead positions, which to me hints at potential staff changes or perhaps the project still being in its early stages of development. However, it’s all just speculation based on the available information.
Currently, there’s no new information forthcoming from Avalanche Studios and Xbox Game Studios regarding the game, leaving Xbox enthusiasts in a state of speculation. Should anything change, we’ll be sure to keep you informed by updating the tale.
