A game planned for release on Xbox Series X has been cancelled just days before its launch – only four days beforehand, in fact. While last-minute game cancellations happen occasionally, it’s unusual for one to be called off so close to the release date. This doesn’t happen more than a couple of times per console generation. Unfortunately, this time it’s Xbox fans who are disappointed.
Gamers hoping to play Nickelodeon Splat Pack on Xbox Series S and X are out of luck – the Xbox version of the game has been cancelled. The Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation 5 versions will still be released as planned. Limited Run Games confirmed this news to Gematsu, but didn’t explain why the Xbox version was dropped. It’s likely there was a problem with getting the game to run properly on Xbox, or perhaps not enough people showed interest. It’s strange that Limited Run Games waited so long to cancel the Xbox version if that was the reason.
Classic SNES and Sega Genesis Games
If you’re unfamiliar, the Nickelodeon Splat Pack isn’t a new game – it’s a collection of three classic titles. It includes Aaahh!!! Real Monsters (originally for SNES and Sega Genesis), Nickelodeon G.U.T.S. (SNES), and Rocko’s Modern Life: Spunky’s Dangerous Day (SNES). These are the original games, but they’ve been updated with some new features and improvements for modern players.
Xbox fans have experienced several unexpected delays this year. Just recently, another game planned for the Xbox Series X was cancelled, two months before its March release date, which now makes it a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
We’ll share any new details about the sudden cancellation if Limited Run Games releases them. They likely have a reason for the change, but haven’t announced it yet.
