After a nine-year wait, a game originally popular with Nintendo Switch fans has quietly launched on Xbox Series X|S. The game first appeared on Nintendo Switch in 2018, then came to PlayStation 4 in 2019 and PC in 2020. While an Xbox One version was planned to release around the same time as the PS4 version, it never materialized. For years, fans heard nothing about it. Now, unexpectedly, it’s available on Xbox One, Series X, and Series S.
Good news for Xbox fans! The cooperative puzzle game Pode, originally announced a long time ago, is now available to play. It’s being sold for the full price of $24.99, the same as on other consoles, though it’s typically $5 cheaper on PC.
Fan-Favorite Co-op Game
The game Pode, released in 2018, received a respectable score of 76 on Metacritic – a good result for an independent title. It was the second game from the studio, following Flem in 2015. Surprisingly, Pode is still the studio’s most recent release, even though it came out eight years ago. While some people thought the studio might have closed down, this new version of the game proves they are still operating.
Although the game received a modest score of 76 on Metacritic, player reviews are much more positive. It boasts a 90% approval rating on Steam and a 4.47 out of 5 rating on the PlayStation Store – scores that are nearly identical and higher than its Metacritic score. This difference suggests that critics may have underestimated how enjoyable the game is, especially for those playing with others.
The game Pode follows a rock and a fallen star as they team up to solve old puzzles, all set within a beautiful world inspired by Norwegian art and culture. It’s best for players who enjoy gameplay over a complex story, as the narrative is simple and serves as a backdrop to the puzzles. A playthrough of Pode will likely take between four and six hours, depending on how quickly you solve the puzzles and your overall playstyle.
