Okay, so the first huge game of 2026 is coming out soon, and it’s kinda frustrating because it won’t be on Xbox Series X. If I want to play it, I’ll have to use a PS5 or my PC. Honestly, this keeps happening – Xbox seems to miss out on a lot of the big releases compared to PlayStation, and it’s getting pretty annoying. Every year it feels like we’re left out more and more.
Gamers will have a relatively quiet January, with only one mildly interesting release, Code Vein II. While the first Code Vein sold well, its success was boosted by being a launch title for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The first major game of the year will be Nioh 3, launching on February 6th. Developed by Team Ninja and published by Koei Tecmo, it continues the story of the Nioh series which began in 2017 and continued with Nioh 2 in 2020. Nioh 3 will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5, following the pattern of its predecessors, and is not expected to be released on Xbox consoles.
One of 2026’s Biggest RPG Releases
Okay, so everyone’s really hyped for Nioh 3, and honestly, I am too! It could totally be one of the biggest RPGs of the year. Team Ninja has a pretty solid track record – the first Nioh got an 88 on Metacritic when it came out on PS4, and Nioh 2 scored an 85 near the end of that generation. From what I’ve seen, Nioh 3 looks like it’s just building on everything that made the first two games so great – more of the same awesome action, which is exactly what I want!
It’s always been unclear why the Nioh games are only available on PlayStation, but it seems likely Sony paid for the exclusivity. Team Ninja, the game’s developer, has made similar deals with other platforms in the past. It’s uncertain if Nioh will continue, but if the series ends, all the games might eventually become available on Xbox, like what’s happened with other Japanese titles. However, this is just a guess at this point.
