The Xbox Store now has a feature PlayStation 5 users have had for some time. Both the Xbox Store and PlayStation Store are noticeably behind Steam when it comes to features, design, and sales. However, they both offer a much better experience than the Nintendo eShop, which is generally considered the weakest of the major digital stores. While the Xbox and PlayStation stores are comparable overall, each one has unique advantages the other lacks.
The PlayStation Store has offered Apple Pay for PS5 and PS4 users for some time now, a feature added after the consoles initially launched. However, Google Pay still isn’t accepted. While the Xbox Store only recently added Apple Pay, it also supports Google Pay. This means the Xbox Store currently provides more payment choices than the PlayStation Store.
A Long Overdue Option
While it might not be a huge change, many Xbox fans have been requesting this new feature for years! It allows Xbox One, Series S, and Series X users to use their preferred payment methods, which is great news for those who’ve been waiting.
“There are those who thought this day would never come,” writes one Xbox fan of this news.
Some Xbox users have been testing this feature for a while now, as it’s been gradually released in different areas. It looks like even more regions are getting access, but it’s still not available everywhere. Unfortunately, there’s currently no way to know when it will be available in all regions, or even if it will be.
It’s unclear what Microsoft has planned for the future of the Microsoft Store. However, Xbox is receiving updates – tested through the Xbox Insider program – that will bring new features and improvements, including a significant upgrade to Quick Resume. Xbox is also working towards offering an experience more similar to Steam, and this strategy may influence the future development of the Microsoft Store.
