SEGA has quietly confirmed that Yakuza Kiwami 2 will run at a smooth 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5. The announcement was found hidden within the Japanese version of their FAQ section.
A highly praised remake will be available on Sony’s newest PlayStation console on December 8th. Players who already own the digital version for PS4 can upgrade to the new version at no cost.
So far, we haven’t heard about any technical upgrades for the PS5 version, and that’s left fans wondering why one was even made.
Kiwami 2 would really benefit from running at 60 frames per second. Currently, it’s limited to 30fps on PlayStation 4, and even when played on the PlayStation 5 through backwards compatibility, it never received an update to improve performance.
This might not seem important to everyone, but it’s worth remembering that the previous Yakuza games – Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami – ran very smoothly at 60 frames per second, even on the PlayStation 4.
Switching from older Yakuza games to Kiwami 2 can be quite a shock, mainly because Kiwami 2 has significantly improved graphics powered by the Dragon Engine.
Just to quickly summarize, Yakuza Kiwami 2 on PlayStation 5 will run at a smooth 60 frames per second. If you already own the digital version on PS4, you’ll get this upgrade for free. Plus, because this is a new release, it has its own separate list of trophies to earn. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to transfer your saved progress from the PS4 version.
