Yakuza Kiwami 3 Becomes an Orphanage Sim with Massively Expanded Morning Glory Minigames

If you ever played the original Yakuza 3 on the PS3, you may recall its notoriously slow start.

The game features several hours set in Okinawa, where Kazuma Kiryu, a veteran of the Yakuza, is enjoying retirement and running an orphanage called Morning Glory. (It was renamed Sunshine Orphanage in Western versions, likely due to the original name’s connotations.)

This installment offers a refreshing, lighter tone for the series, but it might be a bit too brief. That’s likely why SEGA is revisiting and expanding the initial parts of the game.

The new Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties remake will feature lots of fun minigames, each connected to unique side stories.

Initially, Kiryu is a beginner cook, only able to make simple Japanese curry. However, as you improve your parenting skills, you’ll unlock more complex recipes through a fun cooking minigame.

The main character will also have to learn everyday skills, such as sewing and assisting with schoolwork.

After earning items, you can trade them at the Okinawa Market for a good profit.

This game seems like a clever update to the classic Yakuza style, and there’s plenty to do beyond the main story.

The Dark Ties campaign introduces a new mode called Damage Control, where you’ll lead a public relations effort to rehabilitate the image of Kanda, a former convict with a tarnished reputation.

In this game, you’ll complete quests and missions to improve your Yakuza member’s status, starting from the very bottom and working your way up to become a powerful figure. As you progress, you’ll also unlock special connections with characters, strengthening your relationships with them.

There’s a lot of extra content to enjoy in addition to the classic story from Yakuza 3.

The new version will be released on February 12th, so you won’t have to wait much longer to see it.
