FINE and Shadow Glove have announced that Yokai Landlord: Monster Mystery!, a social deduction game where players try to identify werewolves, will be available on Nintendo Switch starting December 25th. The game will cost 1,980 yen and support English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese languages.
Yokai Landlord: Monster Mystery! was initially available on Steam as an Early Access game on March 25th, before becoming fully released on April 15th.
Here is an overview of the game, via its Steam page:
About
This is a social deduction game inspired by Werewolf, where you’re an apartment landlord trying to identify the Yokai (supernatural creatures) living among your tenants. It’s more than just a mystery, though – it’s a touching story about how your characters develop and change.
Story
After your father’s passing, you inherit the apartment he left behind.
Then one day, a mysterious man appears with a warning for you—the new landlord:
“There are Yokai living among the residents in your apartment building.”
From that moment on, your journey to uncover the cleverly disguised Yokai begins.
Overview
A social deduction adventure where monsters wear human faces.
You’re the landlord in this social deduction game, and your job is to figure out which of your tenants are secretly Yokai! You’ll need to collect clues and share your evidence to expose them.
The game tells one continuous story broken up into chapters. As the story unfolds, the seasons shift, and new characters – including Yokai – arrive to take the place of those who have left.
Each chapter challenges you to find the hidden Yokai, collect proof of their presence, and then successfully remove them.
The main purpose of the game is to figure out why Yokai are entering your home, and to understand the reasons behind the warnings given by the strange man you met.
Gather Information From Tenants
Get to know your tenants – they’ll reach out to you as the new landlord with issues, questions, or just to introduce themselves.
Pay close attention to these conversations – they might offer clues about who the Yokai are. If someone’s words or behavior seem unusual, it could be a sign. Don’t forget to write things down!
Use the apartment’s security cameras (Available from Chapter Two)
Yokai are clever. Even with surveillance cameras, they won’t reveal themselves easily.
If you pay close attention, you might notice them acting strangely, especially when they believe they’re alone.
Even seemingly normal actions could be significant. Pay close attention to everything and investigate every detail – you never know what you might discover.
Evict the Yokai Once Discovered
Once you’ve collected sufficient proof and confirmed a tenant is a Yokai, you can begin the eviction process.
However, simply pointing out the suspicious tenant won’t be enough to make them leave.
To get the Yokai to show their true selves, you’ll need to provide proof – like confirming the other residents are people – to convince them.
Okay, so listen up! If you accidentally kick out a human resident, things get way worse. The other humans will start distrusting each other, and that’s exactly what those yokai are hoping for – they thrive on that kind of chaos. You really need to be careful with evictions!
Interview tenants carefully, uncover subtle “suspicious,” and connect the dots to build your case.
Successfully tracking down a yokai after careful investigation feels incredibly rewarding, and it’s a feeling you can only get in this game.
If You Don’t Evict Them in Time…
On the night of the new moon, the Yokai will unleash their true power.
When that happens, there’s nothing us powerless humans can do.
Estimated Total Playtime
About 10 hours.
If you’re new to “mystery games,” it may take longer.
