Following the release of HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the world of Game of Thrones is once again capturing the public’s attention. The new series, based on George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg, tells the story of Ser Duncan the Tall and his companion, Aegon Targaryen. After a well-received first season of just six half-hour episodes, fans are eager for more. And now, those looking for something new after watching Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon have a great option – it became available for free streaming in February.
If you enjoyed Game of Thrones and are looking for something similar, check out Medieval. This 2022 historical drama, directed by Petr Jákl, tells the story of Jan Žižka, a famous military leader from Bohemia. It’s now streaming on Tubi and offers plenty of action and a realistic historical setting – making it a great choice for fans of epic fantasy. Plus, it’s free to watch! Keep in mind that streaming availability can change, so it’s best to watch Medieval on Tubi soon.
Ben Foster’s Medieval Is a Divisive Movie Perfect for Game of Thrones Fans
While not flawless, Medieval is a good option for fans of shows like Game of Thrones. Set in the early 1400s during a time of turmoil in the Holy Roman Empire, the film follows Jan Žižka (played by Ben Foster) as he becomes a renowned military leader known for never being defeated. Amidst a power struggle between King Wenceslas of Czech and King Sigismund of Hungary, Žižka sets out to rescue Lady Katherine and finds himself battling widespread corruption and treachery.
Although Medieval centers on one historical figure instead of a large group of characters and doesn’t include fantasy elements like Game of Thrones, its story shares a lot with the popular series. Like Game of Thrones, it features a fierce battle for power between kings, political corruption, and the unexpected rise of an ordinary person. The film also captures the same dark, violent, and realistic depiction of the Middle Ages. If you’re looking for action, Medieval delivers with chaotic battles and brutal hand-to-hand combat that will remind you of Game of Thrones, making it a strong option for fans of the series.
What’s New on Tubi?
Tubi is a surprisingly great, and completely free, streaming service. It has a huge library with thousands of movies and TV shows. In February, they added even more titles, including popular films like Marvel’s Runaways, the Jurassic World movies, the Taken trilogy, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and Bottoms.
