The popularity of “Squid Game” reigns supreme, shattering previous records by amassing over 106.3 million views in just the first ten days after its release. This groundbreaking series, now on its third and final season, has been announced by Netflix as the most-watched show within this timeframe so far. The success of “Squid Game” may be attributed to the strategic launch of its second season towards the end of 2024, providing ample opportunity for viewers to catch up on it during the year, thereby significantly increasing the show’s viewership over the past six months.
In addition to “The Night Agent,” “Ginny & Georgia,” and “You” – all of which will have new seasons in 2025, boosting their positions in the rankings for original content – other popular Netflix series making the top 20 list are “The Resistance,” “Love Is Blind,” “Black Mirror,” “Zero Day,” “Virgin River,” and “Sweet Magnolias.” Remarkably, even though no new episodes were released in 2025, “Stranger Things” continued to captivate audiences, with many fans rewatching the show ahead of its series finale at year-end.
Netflix Originals Dominate Early 2025
Speaking about popular original shows on various streaming platforms, Reacher on Prime Video made a comeback in February with the much-anticipated battle between Reacher and Paul ‘Paulie’ Van Hoven. Apple TV+’s Severance is also ranked among the top five shows. Additionally, The Handmaid’s Tale can be found on Hulu, 1923 and Landman are offered by Paramount+, Andor is available on Disney+, The Pitt is Max’s offering, and Love Island USA airs on Peacock.
Netflix’s expansion and dominance in the streaming programming sector appears set to persist throughout the next few months. Notable releases slated for the latter half of 2025 are expected to further solidify its position at the industry helm.
