Microsoft recently revealed their 50th Anniversary Edition Surface Laptop, marking the company’s 50-year milestone. A limited run of just 50 units was produced, and these unique laptops were not available for public sale.
To acquire the 50th Anniversary Surface Laptop, you had two options: either by winning it, or if you happened to be our Editor-in-Chief, Daniel Rubino (but I must admit, I don’t feel any envy towards him at all).
This special edition laptop features a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite (12-core) processor, 32GB of memory, and a 1TB solid-state drive. For your computing needs, it performs on par with the regular Surface Laptop 7. Given that the standard model received a perfect score in our review, this is certainly a positive aspect.
Essentially, the premium version of the Surface Laptop shares many similarities with its regular counterpart. However, it stands out with some aesthetic changes such as a golden Microsoft emblem at the back and an engraved Microsoft logo on the keyboard area.
To clarify, my purpose isn’t to demonstrate why this laptop is unique; Rubino has already done that in his 50th Anniversary Surface Laptop hands-on review.
Here, I will guide you on transforming your standard Surface Laptop into one resembling the limited-edition model, which is not for sale.
In this way, we can achieve a similar aesthetic without having to purchase the exclusive edition itself.
Matte black Surface Laptop
The first thing you’ll need to do is replicate the color of the 50th Anniversary Surface Laptop.
One of the standard color choices for a Surface Laptop is a matte black, which simplifies the process of achieving the same look as the limited edition version.
Occasionally, opting for a Surface Laptop in a less frequently chosen color can result in savings. For instance, during the July shopping season, similar to Prime Day, I observed that a Platinum Surface Laptop 7 was nearly $100 cheaper than certain models in other colors.
Additionally, if you happen to own a Surface Laptop, regardless of whether you got it on sale or it’s not the standard black model, you can personalize your computer by applying a skin to it.
dbrand offers several options for skins that fit the Surface Laptop, and among them, the matte black one most closely resembles the finish found on the 50th Anniversary edition of the device.
Microsoft and Surface stickers
Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Surface Laptop goes beyond being just a matte black computer. It showcases distinctive elements reflecting Microsoft’s premium image and heritage.
It seems that I’ve had trouble locating a gold Surface logo decal similar to the one on the 50th Anniversary Surface Laptop. However, you do have the option to include a logo pack with your dbrand order instead.
The pack contains various Surface logo stickers: matte black, matte white, matte grey, and multi-colored ones. If you’re personalizing a device to showcase Microsoft and Surface, the vibrant multi-color sticker might be your choice, but for just $9.95, you receive all four types in this pack.
To mark its 50th anniversary, the Surface Laptop features an engraved Microsoft logo from 1975. However, it’s not advisable to etch your own computer, so you might need to find a suitable sticker instead.
As I continue my quest, I’m yet to find the elusive 50th anniversary sticker in the Microsoft merchandise store. They’ve got an array of products from baby onesies to tote bags, but no sign of a decal commemorating their 50th year. It looks like I might have to make do with a vinyl decal showcasing the current Microsoft logo instead.
A significant part of the store is reserved for merchandise commemorating Microsoft’s 50th anniversary, yet it appears they leaned more towards offering pins rather than decals as a way to mark this special occasion.
