You Won’t Believe What’s Trending on Netflix in July

It’s not just me who’s always wondering what others are streaming on Netflix, and the popular movies and TV shows tabs have been a great help in solving that mystery. They usually prevent my endless scrolling through social media feeds. However, discovering ‘Krampus’ in the Top 10 movies in mid-July made me question my understanding of what’s trending!

I Was Not Expecting To See Krampus Trending On Netflix Today

It seems that even though we’re not quite at December yet, there’s an unusual surge in holiday spirit – or perhaps more accurately, fear – among Netflix users this summer. The reason appears to be the popularity of the 2015 movie “Krampus”, a Christmas horror film featuring a character no one would want to celebrate with. This chilling flick made its way onto Netflix’s 2025 releases on July 16th, and it seems that quite a few horror enthusiasts were eager to watch or rewatch it.

If you’re not familiar with it, the film is based on an old legend about a character named Krampus, who metes out punishment to misbehaving children while Saint Nicholas rewards the good ones. The movie was directed by Michael Dougherty, who also made the highly praised Halloween film “Trick ‘r Treat.” The cast includes Adam Scott from “Severance” and Toni Colette from “Hereditary,” playing a couple and parents to a young boy whose holiday spirit is put to the test. After he destroys a letter to Santa, the family starts getting haunted by Krampus, making for an enjoyable horror movie experience. In fact, the director has already expressed thoughts about a sequel.

I’m Now Convinced Christmas In July Is A Lot More Popular

It’s worth noting that, despite Christmas being over half a year away, the horror film Krampus has surprisingly made its way into Netflix’s Top 10 list in mid-July. I never thought Christmas in July was quite so prevalent, but it seems I underestimated its popularity.

Certainly, Krampus isn’t like your typical Christmas movie, deviating significantly from popular films such as National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation or How The Grinch Stole Christmas. However, with the holiday season starting as early as late November, I find myself eagerly anticipating it and can hardly wait until then. I may not be like everyone else, but I enjoy that some people have this unique tradition.

Some people might limit their horror movie watching to October, but if you’re looking for a chilling summer flick, check out “I Know What You Did Last Summer”. Seeing “Krampus” trending on Netflix made me wonder what day it is, but remember, there’s no need to stick to a schedule when choosing the movie you want to watch!
