YOU WON’T BELIEVE Who Voices Nitwit in the Minecraft Movie!

Following the release of “A Minecraft Movie” in cinemas, both children and adults are flocking to catch their favorite video game transformed onto the big screen. As critics have already begun sharing their opinions on this fresh addition to our lives, some reviews have been favorable while others less so. If you’ve kept up with trailers and updates related to the movie, you’re aware that stars like Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and Jennifer Coolidge lend their talents, alongside many other recognizable faces. What might surprise you is that the quirky villager who captured our attention when he entered a portal in the official trailer – Nitwit – is actually voiced by actor, comedian, and writer Matt Berry.

Warning: Spoilers related to A Minecraft Movie are ahead.

Matt Berry is a Perfect, Hilarious Fit for a Villager

Since the first previews of “A Minecraft Movie” emerged, it was clear that a villager character would journey through a portal into reality. To our surprise, this particular villager is called Nitwit and is voiced by Matt Berry, with Bret McKenzie portraying him in costume. Although Nitwit communicates solely in Villager language throughout the film, he learns to speak English by the time the end credits roll.

In case you recall, Berry has made us chuckle significantly in shows like “What We Do in the Shadows” and “Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace,” as well as numerous other comedic films. Given his exceptional talent for comic delivery and peculiarity, it’s no wonder he landed this part. Interestingly enough, Berry isn’t the only one with ties to both “What We Do in the Shadows” and now “A Minecraft Movie”; Jemaine Clement is also associated with both productions.

But Who Is Nitwit?

Initially, we observe the character named Nitwit, a villager, stepping through a portal into reality. Unfortunately, he trips and ends up right in front of an oncoming car, which hits him. The driver turns out to be Vice Principal Marlene, portrayed by Jennifer Coolidge. Despite being taken aback by Nitwit’s enormous head, she expresses concern about his wellbeing. It’s worth noting that VP Marlene is divorced from her former teacher spouse, creating an intriguing opportunity for her to potentially find a new romantic interest in none other than Nitwit himself.

Over the course of a single day, Nitwit starts grasping English, while VP Marlene picks up Villager dialect. These two become instant friends, and as it turns out, they’re getting married by the end of the movie. It seems like a perfect match from Overworld! If you haven’t watched the film yet to meet Nitwit yourself, you’re in for a fantastic experience as Matt Berry delivers an outstanding performance. Don’t forget to stay till the end credits for not only a scene with Nitwit and VP Marlene, but also a bonus post-credits scene that is full of surprises for Minecraft enthusiasts.
