Misty Copeland is raising the bar(re) when it comes to Oscars style.
The professional ballet dancer made a stunning appearance at the 2026 Oscars in Los Angeles on March 15th, wearing a unique dress by David Koma and almost $2 million in diamonds.
Her elegant black and white dress, complete with a tutu, had a ballet-inspired look, but it was the stunning $1.8 million emerald-cut diamond ring – known as the Jared Mpho Diamond – that truly caught everyone’s attention.
The 43-year-old actress, slated to honor the film Sinners at the 98th Academy Awards, finished her outfit with $15,000 diamond earrings from Jared Atelier. (You can find details on all the stars’ looks at the 2026 Oscars here.)
Misty’s appearance at the Oscars feels particularly relevant, considering that just weeks ago, Timothée Chalamet – who is nominated tonight for his work in Marty Supreme – sparked conversation by suggesting that ballet and opera aren’t widely appreciated.
Misty Copeland, the first Black woman to become a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre, has commented on the recent discussion. She was surprised by Timothée Chalamet’s opinion, particularly because she appeared in an Instagram campaign for Marty Supreme last November.

She explained that she was excited to help promote Marty Supreme through her work as an artist. Speaking at an event for Aveeno in New York City on March 10th, she emphasized that while her art form might not be mainstream or widely known like movies, it still holds cultural significance and lasting value.
She explained that opera and ballet have endured for over four centuries for a good reason. She believes that having the chance to experience these art forms can be transformative, and her life’s work has been dedicated to making them accessible to a wider audience. This is because she wants people to recognize how valuable and important they are to our communities and culture.

The dancer explained that the actor’s success wouldn’t be possible without the foundation he gained from opera and ballet. She believes all art forms – including opera, ballet, and film – are valuable and shouldn’t be pitted against each other.
Misty’s look isn’t the only showstopper on the Oscars 2026 red carpet. Keep reading for more…
