You’ll Never Believe What Happens When AI and Blockchain Get a Firewall!

Once upon a time — which is really just a complicated way of saying “last Tuesday” — something called Fuse (not a fireworks company, honestly) decided that crypto needed protection more desperately than a mouse attending a convention for exceptionally hungry cats. And thus, with Check Point (the sort of outfit that sees a lock and wonders if it’s locked enough), they embarked on a quest to build a blockchain firewall. An *AIpowered blockchain firewall, no less, which is so 2025 that it occasionally travels back in time for lunch.

Now, you might wonder (as did the Disc’s resident wizards): “What, pray tell, is an AI doing in the blockchain? Reciting ‘99 bottles of RAM on the wall’?” Apparently not. This AI is going to stare unblinkingly at every single transaction, tutting disapprovingly at any that look just a bit shifty. Think of it as the magical equivalent of Granny Weatherwax patrolling a crowded bazaar, except it doesn’t wear a hat and is less likely to turn you into a newt. At least, we hope.

The concept here is quite simple: before your transaction finishes its wild and dangerous journey through the labyrinthine maze of Web3, the AI takes a good look and decides if it’s on the up-and-up or if it’s planning on running off with your wallet, your smart contract, and perhaps even your favourite socks.

“Prevention is always better than a cure,” declared Mark Smargon, Fuse CEO, who has clearly never tried preventing a wizard from eating something labelled “DO NOT EAT.” He’s hoping this AI-layered, anti-hacker umbrella will become the standard layer two networks slip into before leaving the house in the digital morning.

Security: The Web3 Edition of “Don’t Push This Button”

Despite all the enthusiastic shouting and clever technology, the truth is that security in Web3 still leaves everyone glancing nervously over their wallets’ shoulders. If you sign the wrong smart contract or accidentally send your cryptocoins to “0xOopsWrongAddress,” congratulations, you’ve just performed an irreversible magic trick — now with 100% less applause!

Crypto’s aspiration to go mainstream means it needs to defend itself not just against hackers, but against the sort of cosmic bad luck that ensures your most expensive transaction is always the one you mess up. According to Dan Danay, who is Check Point’s Head of Web 3.0 Security and presumably has a keyboard with just the letter “D” on it, without robust anti-hacking and anti-fraud spells, nobody but wizards and fools will venture in.

“Just as robust cybersecurity powered the rise of Web 2.0, real-time prevention will be key to Web3’s mainstream adoption,” Dan Danay, Check Point.

Case in point: back in January, even though crypto prices fell like a goblin off a greased staircase, hackers still helped themselves to $98.19 million. This was actually celebrated as “an improvement” since it was down from $160 million (there’s nothing quite like losing only one arm and calling it a win). And for those with a taste for variety, January’s phishing spoils still amounted to $10.25 million. As always, fortune favours the prepared — or at least those with firewall-wielding AIs, twitchy fingers, and a healthy dose of scepticism. 🧙‍♂️💰🦄
