Saying ‘Holmes, Sherlock Holmes’ doesn’t quite have the same impact as a James Bond introduction, but there’s a chance these two worlds could meet. At least, that’s what one of the main actors from Guy Ritchie’s films hopes for when it comes to the James Bond franchise and the 007 character.
Hero Fiennes Tiffin, known for playing Sherlock Holmes, is currently gaining popularity, and some subtle clues suggest he might one day be considered to play James Bond.
He’s become close friends with Henry Cavill after working together on the 2024 film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Cavill, known for playing Superman as the Man of Steel and Sherlock Holmes in the Enola Holmes series on Netflix, is often mentioned as a possible future James Bond. He’s even praised Fiennes Tiffin, calling him “a mega-star in the making.”
Fiennes Tiffin described a colleague as “so lovely” in an interview with Square Mile. He shared that this actor was the first—and so far only—major star he’s ever reached out to for advice on his performance. The actor helped Tiffin prepare by saying, ‘A man who worries before it’s necessary worries more than necessary.’ Tiffin admitted, though, that putting that advice into practice is much harder than it sounds!
Young Sherlock‘s Star Has Hidden Connections to James Bond
Fiennes Tiffin also worked with Idris Elba on the film Above the Below. Given the widespread rumors about Elba potentially becoming the next James Bond in the 007 franchise, and the demanding physical requirements of Tiffin’s role in that film, this experience could indirectly position him as a future Bond contender.
But does he notice the hints? Is Fiennes Tiffin aware of the rumors? Could he actually be the next British actor to play the iconic James Bond?
He questioned whether taking on both Sherlock Holmes and James Bond roles would be greedy or unfair. He wondered if audiences would even want to see the same actor play both iconic characters, especially since they’re both popular British roles that are frequently reimagined by different actors around the same age. While admitting it would be a fantastic opportunity, Tiffin also recognized the importance of audiences connecting with an actor as the character, and whether having him play both roles would compromise that connection.
Hero Fiennes Tiffin Wants to Play James Bond, Unless …
Eventually, the idea of putting others first faded as the reality of playing James Bond set in. My team was clearly frustrated, probably thinking, ‘Just say you want the role!’ So, yes, I would absolutely be interested if I were offered the part.
He also thought Henry Cavill would have been a good choice, but quickly steered the conversation back to himself. “I think Henry is the perfect British gentleman. But enough about him! We all know Henry would have been fantastic as Bond. If the role had been offered to me, though, I absolutely would have taken it.”
Fiennes Tiffin is eager to be considered for the role of James Bond, calling it a lifelong dream. However, he also acknowledges it might not be entirely fair if he got the part, and he’d be equally happy seeing Henry Cavill or Idris Elba take on the iconic role.
It’s great news for fans of Young Sherlock that the actor is interested in taking the role if it’s offered. His representatives, however, have their work cut out for them, as Finn Tiffin seems eager to become James Bond – but only if he’s the sole candidate.
