Microsoft has released an update for its Prism emulator, enabling more x86 applications to run on Windows 11 devices with Arm processors. Prism previously allowed many x86 apps to function, but this update expands compatibility to include even more, like those utilizing AVX or AVX2 technology, including a broader range of apps and games.
Microsoft says that Windows devices using Arm processors, like those with the Snapdragon X series, are becoming more powerful. A new update to a technology called Prism is improving performance and allowing more apps and games to run on these devices, even those not originally designed for them.
Prism now supports translating a wider range of x86 instructions, including AVX, AVX2, BMI, FMA, and F16C. This update means applications like Ableton Live 12 should work correctly on Windows 11 devices using Arm processors.
The Prism emulator has been updated as part of the latest Windows 11 updates (versions 24H2 and 25H2). This means your Windows 11 on Arm PC should update automatically, allowing you to run more apps and games. It works right away for 64-bit applications, and you can easily turn it on for 32-bit applications if needed.

Since its start in 2017, Windows on Arm has improved dramatically. What began as a relatively weak platform with limited support from developers and hardware companies is now a successful system. Today, there’s a wide range of devices available, and many popular apps are designed to work natively on it.
The Prism emulator is a significant improvement over the previous x86 app emulation on Windows 10. Most x86 apps now run smoothly, often without feeling like they’re being emulated at all. For many users, there’s virtually no difference between using a computer with an Intel processor and one with a Snapdragon processor – a huge change from just a few years ago.
