Ys X: Proud Nordics Gets First Major Trailer

The highly anticipated action RPG “Ys X: Proud Nordics” from Japan has unveiled its first significant gameplay and story trailer. This trailer was posted on the official YouTube channel of Falcom, revealing the upgraded graphics for this enhanced edition, slated for Nintendo Switch 2. Notably, this Nintendo Switch version will also be made available on Steam later on.

The freshly unveiled trailer is the initial extended preview for the upcoming game. Within it, viewers get a glimpse of protagonist Adol Christin with red hair and other characters involved in battles, leveling up abilities, and traversing the world. Back in April, a 30-second teaser was made public, offering brief glimpses of characters and assorted gameplay aspects. In June, another trailer emerged, highlighting the official July 31st Japanese launch date.

Previously, the game Ys X: Nordics was available on Nintendo Switch and Steam platforms. However, the upcoming version, Ys X: Proud Nordics, offers an entirely new storyline, improved graphics, and extra content. Marketed as an “improved” edition of the original game, Ys X: Proud Nordics will also launch Chinese and Korean versions on August 25th of this year. For a limited time after release, owners of qualifying Steam versions of the original game can purchase the localized Ys X: Proud Nordics at a discounted price if they choose to upgrade.

In the original game, the narrative unfolds in Obelia Bay, allowing players to navigate through the story, solve puzzles, and engage in combat while sailing between different islands. Conversely, Ys X: Proud Nordics introduces a self-contained story set within a massive island, featuring multiple regions that can be unlocked and explored as you progress.

In their ongoing struggle against the eternal, undead creatures called the Griegr, the fiery-haired explorer Adol and the daring pirate queen Karja stumble upon a series of long-forgotten ruins hidden within the unexplored heart of the island.

Last week, I stumbled upon an exciting piece of news from Inside Games, a Japanese outlet. They revealed that the upcoming version of our beloved game, Ys X: Nordics, could potentially run at 60 frames per second! Even more astonishingly, there’s an option to boost it up to a whopping 120 fps in performance mode. The enhanced visual settings and fresh gameplay elements are already making me reconsider my previous playthrough, even if I’ve already conquered the original Ys X: Nordics!

Regrettably, the latest trailer didn’t offer any fresh updates for fans eagerly anticipating an English adaptation. As of now, there hasn’t been a confirmation about an English version for “Ys X: Proud Nordics”. However, considering previous game installments that had English translations, it’s possible we might see one for this improved version of the original game as well. Previously, the original “Ys X: Nordics” was released in English by NIS America.

In Ys X: Nordics, the standout feature was its versatile “Cross Action System,” enabling players to individually manage characters Adol and pirate princess Karja, or even control them simultaneously. When combined, their skills allowed for joint attacks and the solving of intricate puzzles.

It’s likely that English fans of the series will eventually be able to access exciting additional material officially.
