The continuation of Jujutsu Kaisen immediately grabbed fans’ attention, especially after it showed that two popular characters had passed away from old age. Many wondered if the main character, Itadori Yuji, had met the same fate, but the story quickly confirmed he’s still alive. Now, the narrative suggests Yuji might even come back with all his incredible power as the strongest sorcerer. However, this exciting possibility clashes with Yuji’s original dream.
Yuji Itadori stands out as a unique hero in many stories. While most characters strive for great power or a specific purpose, Yuji simply wanted to help people and be loved in return – a wish passed down from his grandfather. Now that the story continues with Yuji alive but seemingly isolated, it appears his simple, heartfelt dream might remain out of reach.
With Yuji Still Alive, His True Dream Seems Impossible to Fulfill

Yuji’s family history is largely unknown, with his grandfather being the only relative ever mentioned. This led to the sorcerers he fought with becoming like his found family. Considering the sequel takes place nearly 70 years later, it’s probable that many of his close friends, like Yuta and Maki, have passed away. The story suggests Yuji is now working alone, almost as a lone vigilante, with no connection to other Jujutsu Sorcerers, implying he may be completely isolated by the end of his life. This is particularly sad given the hints about how the sequel is preparing for Yuji’s return.
As a huge fan, I’m really starting to worry about Yuji! Everyone still sees him as this unbelievably powerful sorcerer, but it feels like the other Jujutsu Sorcerers are only interested in him as a weapon to show off to the Simurians. It’s leading me to believe he’s going to have to fight Dabura, their strongest warrior, and honestly, it’s terrifying. Yuji’s now over 80, and Dabura is on Sukuna’s level! It’s like the sequel might just be bringing him back so he can finally be defeated. And the worst part? It’s not a heroic sacrifice with his friends and family around – he’ll likely die surrounded by people who only want to exploit his power. It’s just so tragically unfair!
This would make him the first hero in a popular action story to ultimately fail at reaching his main goal. Though it’s a disheartening thought, there’s still hope that Yuji created a loving family, perhaps with children and grandchildren. If that’s the case, even if he dies in a future story, he could still achieve a basic, human desire: being surrounded by loved ones at the end of his life.
