Zach Ertz is taking a different approach than Jason Kelce when it comes to the 2025 Super Bowl.
The Washington Commanders’ tight end, who previously played alongside a retired lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013 to 2021, announced his intention to remain impartial during the February 9 matchup between his old team and the Kansas City Chiefs.
In an exclusive interview with TopMob News, Zach mentioned that he doesn’t currently have a designated team. He shared his fond memories of Philadelphia, where he spent nine years, and cherishes the strong relationships built there. However, he also emphasized having numerous friends in Kansas City as well. Regardless of which team emerges victorious, he expressed his joy at celebrating their hard work and effort.
Even though he’s staying neutral during the grand match-up, I can’t help but feel a pang of regret as I recall our heartbreaking defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship game on January 26th. The thought that we might have been one step closer to Super Bowl LIX still leaves me longing for what could have been.
Being out of the game, I’m planning to watch as an ordinary spectator, rooting for exciting football. I believe these teams are the top ones in the league, and they’ve truly deserved to play in this match.
The 34-year-old stated, ‘Of course, I’d prefer to be playing with the Commanders. However, my main goal is to have an enjoyable match.’
Nevertheless, another ex-Philadelphia Eagles player stands firm in his convictions during games, even though his allegiance is complex. After retiring from the NFL last year, Jason openly stated that if his former team faced off against his brother, Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, in the Super Bowl again, he would undoubtedly support the Eagles while still expressing affection for his sibling. Moreover, beyond Jason’s straightforward comments about his Super Bowl allegiance, Zach cherishes the almost decade they spent playing together on the team.
Zach put it this way: “Jason is among the top leaders I’ve encountered, in my view. His dedication to excel himself and push others to do the same was remarkable. He didn’t hesitate to let people know when they needed to improve, whether they were players or coaches. In fact, he went all out to be at his best. Being a teammate of his meant I had to strive for the same level of excellence.
Reflecting on our unforgettable journey in Philadelphia, I can confidently affirm that we shared an extraordinary professional bond. That connection transcends time and place. He was simply outstanding as a player, and his career speaks volumes about his skillset on the football field. However, it’s his influence off the field that truly sets him apart. His impact off the pitch is arguably twice as significant, which underscores the profound difference he made in our sport and beyond.
Zach might not be participating in this month’s big game, but the football star is definitely occupied and busy on another special day: Valentine’s Day. In fact, he and his wife, Julie Ertz, are collaborating with Russell Stover for the “Tackle Valentine’s Day” sweepstakes, aiming to send one fortunate winner and a companion to the big game in 2026. Given that they’ve been together for over nine years and have grown their family to include sons Madden (4) and twins Kace and Kyren (5 months), their Valentine’s Day celebrations have also taken on a larger scale.
Julie mentioned that she involves her children in their Valentines celebrations these days, making it quite enjoyable. Their son enjoys books, chocolates, and other fun trinkets. It’s more about bonding as a family now, rather than just a romantic occasion.
Nevertheless, the former soccer legend emphasized that the pair are managing to find moments for quality time together. To add to this, she mentioned, “Moreover, with our parents around, we can even enjoy a romantic dinner out.
