For the next 48 hours, a game featuring shooting and zombies is completely free for all PC players on Steam. The offer is open to all PC users until October 6th, but players with the Steam Deck might encounter some problems. Unfortunately, it’s unclear whether the game will run well on the Valve handheld, as the Steam listing marks Steam Deck compatibility as “Unknown.” However, the positive side is that Steam Deck owners won’t have to spend any money to test it out.
From now until 1:00 PM EST on October 6th, Steam and Steam Deck players can get the 2017 shooter Zomborg for free, instead of its regular price of $5. Created by GameDevLab-who first launched with this game and hasn’t released anything on Steam since-and published by GrabTheGames, Zomborg currently has a “Mixed” rating on Steam. This is because only 59% of the 126 user reviews are positive. While this isn’t a great result, and it’s questionable whether the game is worth $5 normally, it’s currently free. As a free download, it’s definitely worth adding to your Steam library.
About the Game
If you haven’t played it before, Zomborg, released in 2017, is a zombie shooter viewed from above that combines role-playing and strategic gameplay. You take on the role of expert mercenaries hired by the United Nations to investigate a virus outbreak and zombie infestation within a quarantined area. The game begins with you creating and customizing your character, and choosing AI-controlled teammates to help you. There’s also a lot of strategy involved in choosing your weapons, as there are over 10 different ones available.
User opinions on the game are mixed, as many have pointed out. Some negative reviews describe it as a quick cash-grab – an “asset flip” – and highlight several bugs and problems within the Steam version. However, positive reviews acknowledge that, despite its simplicity and occasional issues, the game is still enjoyable, particularly considering it’s free to play.
One user review states, “So many people criticize this game, but I think it’s okay. I don’t mind if it’s just quickly made using existing assets; it still offers enjoyable, casual gameplay as a top-down shooter.” The review continues, “I got it when it was free, and to be honest, even if it cost a few dollars, it’s still worth it.”
Here’s what another player said: “This is a really enjoyable game! The controls are spot on, and the graphics are fantastic – particularly when it’s night. Definitely worth the purchase!”
With that covered, please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below, or discuss it further on the ComicBook Forum. If this new free Steam game doesn’t appeal to you, don’t worry – there are other options! Another recently released free Steam game is getting attention for its strong resemblance to old-school Ratchet and Clank, and it currently boasts a perfect 100% rating.
