Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, has been actively working on strategies aimed at bringing Meta up-to-speed in the cutting-edge field of artificial intelligence, which is currently dominated by Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Microsoft.
In his recent strategy for Meta’s AI, as detailed in an openly shared letter published on July 31 (as reported by Tom’s Hardware), just prior to the company’s Q2 2025 financial report, Zuckerberg refers to this concept as “super-intelligence tailored for individuals.
In a recent correspondence, I found myself marveling at Mark Zuckerberg’s revelation about advancements in AI. He shared that over the past few months, we’ve caught glimmers of “self-improving AI systems” and that we’re edging closer to developing true superintelligence.
While Zuckerberg acknowledges that advancements in “superintelligence” are moving at a relatively sluggish pace, he analogizes this progression to farming, suggesting that as recently as 200 years ago, approximately 90% of the population were engaged in cultivating crops for subsistence.
With great confidence, I believe that superintelligence will significantly boost human advancement by speeding up our rate of progress. However, it’s equally crucial to recognize that superintelligence could usher in a new phase of personal empowerment, enabling individuals to have increased control over shaping the world according to their own values and aspirations.
Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO
In today’s world, large-scale farming operations can produce enough food to sustain growing populations, leaving individuals with additional time for other activities. This point is frequently brought up by those involved in AI, but it oversimplifies the intricacies of our current agricultural systems and the food we consume.
Despite any contrary views, Zuckerberg appears to be fully committing Meta to the development of personal artificial superintelligence, with the ultimate goal of putting AI control back into the hands of the people.
According to what’s stated in the letter, Zuckerberg isn’t convinced that Meta should concentrate its artificial intelligence capabilities in a central location, as this could lead to automation of most valuable jobs, leaving us dependent on some sort of Universal Basic Income (UBI) instead.
According to Zuckerberg, the convergence of technology and everyday life is a key area of interest for Meta, and this importance will likely grow over time. It remains uncertain whether this shift is driven by personal decisions from Zuckerberg or strategic moves to keep Meta competitive as it currently falls behind companies like Google and OpenAI in terms of AI capabilities.
Zuckerberg’s open letter was penned down approximately a month following the unveiling of Meta Superintelligence Labs. In this communication, the CEO expressed thoughts parallel to those he shared earlier regarding the lab’s objective: to intertwine artificial intelligence (AI) with everyday human activities in a manner that brings about positive outcomes.
This approach differs from others within the field, who suggest that superintelligence should focus on automating valuable work centrally, leaving humanity to live on a welfare-like system supported by the output generated.
Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO
It appears that Meta has been actively recruiting professionals from OpenAI, Google, and DeepMind for its latest project. This team is being jointly managed by Alexander Wang, the CEO of Scale AI who recently received a $14.3 billion investment from Meta, and former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman.
It appears that this is being done to establish a solid base for Meta’s aspirations in artificial intelligence, as mentioned by Zuckerberg in his letter.
For the remainder of this decade, it appears that we’re entering a critical phase where the direction this technology will go, and whether artificial intelligence will serve as a means to enhance individual capabilities or a force intent on displacing significant portions of society, will be shaped.
Will Meta’s ‘personal superintelligence‘ angle save jobs?

In light of a Microsoft report predicting that AI could potentially eliminate around 40 job positions, Mark Zuckerberg’s adjustments for Meta seem to offer some comfort. It’s well-known that AI is replacing certain jobs, and other figures in the AI sector haven’t been overly optimistic about this trend.
It is predicted by the CEO of Anthropic that AI technology could eliminate half of all entry-level white collar positions. Microsoft’s co-founder Bill Gates thinks that AI will take over most job roles, and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has stated that everyone’s jobs may be impacted in some way due to advancements in AI technology.
The current situation doesn’t seem promising for many industries, yet despite some past ambitious ideas like virtual reality and the metaverse that didn’t fully materialize, Zuckerberg continues to maintain a hopeful outlook.
I’m highly hopeful that artificial superintelligence will speed up human advancement significantly. What’s equally significant, though, is its capacity to initiate a fresh period of personal autonomy, allowing individuals to take more control and shape the world as they desire in the areas they deem important.
Meta is committed to constructing a universal superintelligence that benefits everyone. We possess the necessary resources and skills to establish the extensive infrastructure, and we are driven and capable of providing cutting-edge technology to vast numbers of people via our products. I am thrilled about channeling Meta’s energies towards shaping this future.
Meta’s Llama AI appears to have a long-term future given the vast amounts of money the company is investing in it, but only time will tell if Mark Zuckerberg’s new direction is the correct one.
Currently, with capitalism becoming increasingly focused and viewing human workers as excess costs, it appears that a future dominated by AI automation, potentially eliminating numerous jobs, is becoming a stronger possibility. Conversely, a future where advanced AI exists to aid us in our daily lives seems less far-fetched.
