Patrick Gibson, known for his role in the Netflix series Shadow and Bone, is the voice of James Bond in the new video game, 007 First Light. This has led to speculation about whether he could also be considered for the part of 007 in the next movie, now that the role is open.
Lennie James, who stars alongside him in the game, agrees. He recently told TopMob Gaming at the BAFTA Games Awards that Gibson is “fantastic” as Bond and believes he’s a strong contender for the next James Bond role.
James believes Gibson is definitely being considered for the Bond films, and that those making the decisions would be foolish not to consider him.
During a recent interview about the game 007 First Light, we asked Patrick Gibson for his reaction to the positive comments made by Lennie James.
Gibson responded to Lennie’s suggestion that he be considered for the films, saying he was very touched by the compliment.

I was chatting with Patrick Gibson and realized something kind of funny. I mentioned his Twitter handle – it’s always been Patrick Gibson Double 0, even before he landed this part! It made me wonder… was that just a total coincidence?
That’s amusing, I hadn’t considered that before. It just goes to show, things often happen in unexpected ways. Good catch! But just to be clear, I definitely haven’t harmed anyone.
Gibson explained that the game’s casting process was much like traditional film and TV auditions. He initially recorded two self-tape auditions, and then participated in chemistry reads with the other actors to see how well they worked together.
The last two rounds of interviews involved short sessions, usually just a few hours each. I received a lot of feedback during those sessions and had to focus on processing it all. There were around 100 people on the Zoom call.
So, how did Gibson approach becoming his version of Bond? He explained that it surprisingly felt similar to roles he’d played before. The key, he said, was to ignore everything he knew about the established Bond stories and popular image of the character.
With such a well-known character and famous lines, it’s easy to fall into the trap of simply trying to please fans. Our goal was to stay true to the core of Bond – the qualities that define him across all the movies and books. It was often surprising to discover what truly felt like essential Bond and what didn’t.
The game is launching very soon, and we’re excited to see how players react to Gibson’s portrayal of Bond. If he proves popular, he definitely deserves a chance to audition for the film adaptation!
007 First Light launches 27 May for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. You can order your copy now.
