The upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, is set to feature a massive gathering of heroes, potentially even larger than what we saw in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. While over twenty actors are confirmed to appear, and rumors suggest Chris Evans might reprise his role as Captain America alongside Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, some major characters haven’t been officially announced yet. It’s currently unclear whether Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch will be involved.
Fans are still waiting for official confirmation of Doctor Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After his appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which hinted at a larger role in future multiversal storylines, many expected him to be involved in Doomsday. Cumberbatch has been reluctant to discuss his involvement, but in a recent interview with Collider, he offered the clearest update yet. He stated he now has a good idea of what’s next for his character in the MCU and confirmed he will definitely return at some point.
Doctor Strange Needs To Return Sooner Rather Than Later

Benedict Cumberbatch hasn’t said for sure if he’ll be in the next Avengers movies, Doomsday or Secret Wars, but his recent statements are encouraging for fans of Doctor Strange. Although Strange was a key player in Infinity War and Endgame, and was positioned to be important in the MCU’s new Multiverse Saga, he’s only appeared once so far, making a return feel long awaited.
Especially after the post-credits scene in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – which showed Strange entering the Dark Dimension with Clea and hinted at him investigating problems caused by different universes, plus revealed his third eye – it seems like a lost chance not to explore that storyline further before the upcoming Doomsday and Secret Wars movies. Those films are expected to heavily feature these kinds of universe-crossing events, so it’s hoped that Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Strange in at least one, if not both, of them.
I’m really hoping we get another Doctor Strange movie! While it probably won’t happen until Phase 7 – after everything wraps up with Secret Wars in Phase 6 – Multiverse of Madness did so well, bringing in almost a billion dollars! It was a huge hit, even with all the other heroes showing up to help. But I think we need to see Cumberbatch as Strange again sooner than that, and the next Avengers films seem like the perfect opportunity.
The next Avengers movie, Doomsday, is scheduled to come out on December 18, 2026, and Secret Wars will follow on December 17, 2027.
