1 Year After Cancellation, Cult Classic Sci-Fi Series Gets Alternate Ending

It’s sadly common for good science fiction shows to be canceled before they get a proper run. Despite the genre’s popularity, even shows with dedicated fans often feel like they’re at risk of being cut short. Just in the last year, we’ve seen several end, including Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, Solar Opposites, and Resident Alien. Andor finished its run, and For All Mankind will conclude in 2026. While these shows aren’t all equally acclaimed, they all had a loyal following. Fortunately, a show’s ending isn’t always the final chapter. For All Mankind is getting a spin-off called Star City, and Starfleet Academy has a comic book continuation that could keep the story going beyond the canceled second season.

The SyFy show Resident Alien, which ended in 2025 after four seasons, received a thoughtful conclusion thanks to the show’s creators anticipating its cancellation. Though fans might have wanted more, a new comic book series from Dark Horse is offering a continuation of the story. Resident Alien: One More for the Road, written by Peter Hogan and illustrated by Steve Parkhouse, provides an alternate ending and will be available starting April 15th. It’s not a new season of the show, but it’s a welcome return to the world of Resident Alien starring Alan Tudyk.

Resident Alien Will Get the Ending SyFy Couldn’t Give It

The finale of Resident Alien: One More for the Road sees former agent Jones and alien delegates trying to get countries around the world to join a galactic alliance, while Harry covers for Ethan at the clinic and faces increasing danger. Will Harry’s true identity be exposed? This one-time special concludes the hit series, which itself was adapted from the comic book series that began in 2012. The popularity of the SyFy show led to the release of three comic book miniseries.

The season finale of Resident Alien saw Harry (Tudyk) leave Earth to be with his partner, Heather (Edit Patterson), and her alien family on their home world. He was then replaced by another alien with the same mission: to destroy humanity. However, the ending suggests a brighter future for Earth, potentially even allowing it to become part of a larger galactic community. The show took significant liberties with the original comic book storyline – including Harry’s initial mission and his departure – so the comic’s conclusion, which reveals both its intended ending and an alternate one mirroring Harry’s choice to stay on Earth, is a thoughtful addition for fans. Here’s a sneak peek at the final Resident Alien comic book issue…
