Turning anime into live-action movies and shows has become increasingly popular, but it wasn’t always this way. For years, bad adaptations left anime fans disappointed and skeptical. However, recent successes like One Piece, Alita: Battle Angel, and Alice in Borderland have renewed excitement for live-action anime projects.
We share the same enthusiasm for seeing anime brought to life in new ways. With many live-action adaptations already announced, the future looks bright! We’re also eager to see some of our favorite anime classics get the live-action treatment, as we believe they have the potential to be truly powerful and moving adaptations.
10) Solo Leveling

The anime Solo Leveling has become incredibly popular, consistently breaking viewership records throughout its first two seasons. Following the conclusion of season two, a live-action version was announced, to be produced by Kakao Entertainment and SANAI Pictures for Netflix. Although a live-action adaptation wasn’t initially appealing to everyone, the announcement of the cast has generated a lot of excitement and suggests the project could be very good.
Byeon Woo-seok will star in the leading role, and Han So-hee will play Cha Hae-in. With a strong cast and hints that the show will be a K-drama, this adaptation feels like it’s developing a unique style. The series has gained huge popularity thanks to the anime, and it will be interesting to see how the live-action version evolves and creates its own identity.
9) Monster

Adapting the anime Monster into a live-action film could be surprisingly straightforward, thanks to its realistic story and focus on psychological suspense. Many fans consider Monster to be as good as, or even better than, Death Note. Considering the Death Note live-action films weren’t very successful, a live-action version of Monster has the potential to prove how well a smart, suspenseful anime can translate to a live-action format.
Guillermo del Toro was once planning to make a live-action version of Monster, but the project fell through. Fans have wanted to see a live-action adaptation ever since, and with more and more anime being adapted into live-action, now might be the perfect time for Monster to get its turn.
8) Slam Dunk

Anime sports series are incredibly popular, with new shows and comics appearing all the time. Despite this, no sports anime has ever been successfully turned into a great live-action movie or series. That’s why a live-action version of Slam Dunk could be a real hit. The original anime by Toei Animation is getting a bit dated, so now feels like the perfect time to revisit the story with a live-action adaptation.
The story of Slam Dunk is ideally suited for a live-action adaptation. With well-developed characters built around the world of basketball, and relatable themes of love, friendship, and rivalry driving their growth, it feels like a sports anime that’s long overdue for a live-action version.
7) Hajime No Ippo

It wouldn’t be right to talk about sports without mentioning boxing, especially with a popular anime like Hajime no Ippo around. New boxing stories are always coming out, and a live-action version of Hajime no Ippo would be fantastic for fans. The series tells a realistic and inspiring story, perfectly capturing the excitement and dedication of the sport.
Given that Hajime no Ippo influenced the most recent Creed movie, a live-action version has a strong chance of succeeding. With thoughtful production, it could be just as impactful as the original anime.
6) Violet Evergarden

Beyond sports and suspenseful thrillers, romance anime with genuine emotional depth would also translate well to live-action, and Violet Evergarden is a prime example. It’s more than just a love story; the anime delves into what love truly means and feels like.
I’m completely captivated by Violet Evergarden! It tells the story of Violet, a young woman who used to be a soldier and now works writing letters for others. It’s a little ironic, because she’s spent her whole life experiencing hardship and doesn’t really understand feelings or connection herself. Watching her learn what it means to love and truly connect with people is just so beautiful and moving. Plus, the world it’s set in feels so real and detailed. Honestly, if any romance anime were to become a live-action movie, Violet Evergarden would be absolutely perfect!
5) My Hero Academia

I’m a huge fan of My Hero Academia, and it’s widely considered one of the best shonen anime adaptations ever – it really did the manga justice! Even though both the anime and manga have finished their runs, the fanbase is still incredibly passionate. Thankfully, we’re getting even more! Legendary Entertainment and Netflix officially announced a live-action movie is coming in late 2025, which is amazing news for all of us!
It’s now confirmed that Shinsuke Sato, the director of Alice in Borderland, is directing the live-action adaptation. Jason Fuchs, who wrote Wonder Woman and is familiar with the original story, is writing the script. These creative choices are incredibly promising, and have fans eagerly awaiting the rumored late 2027 release.
4) Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen is now considered a standout anime, praised for its complex story and thrilling, action-packed fights. Turning it into a live-action movie or series would be a huge undertaking – possibly one of the most challenging anime adaptations yet. While finding a Japanese cast is possible, faithfully recreating the series’ intense action would be the biggest hurdle. The story’s strong connection to Japanese culture makes an authentic portrayal essential, and that includes casting.
Thanks to new visual effects technology, things that once seemed impossible to film are now achievable. Whether we’ll actually see a live-action adaptation of this popular anime depends on a studio being willing to invest in it. Fans are eager to see beloved characters like Satoru Gojo and Ryomen Sukuna, and the series’ emotional scenes, brought to life in a new way.
3) Naruto

A live-action version of Naruto would be amazing, and excitement for it is comparable to the buzz around Netflix’s One Piece show. Lionsgate has been planning a Naruto movie for a while now, with Destin Daniel Cretton – the director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings – on board. While a movie might not be the perfect way to adapt the series, it could be a good first step to see if Naruto can successfully be brought to life in live-action.
While One Piece has a more universal appeal, Naruto is heavily influenced by Japanese traditions. A live-action version that loses sight of these cultural foundations might not succeed, which is why fans are eagerly anticipating this new adaptation and hoping it stays true to the source material.
2) Vinland Saga

Vinland Saga is an exceptional anime featuring a remarkably mature and compelling main character. Thorfinn’s story beautifully portrays the transition from youth to adulthood, and it’s a tale that should be shared with everyone through adaptations in various formats. The realistic and gritty action sequences would also make a live-action version particularly well-suited.
A live-action version of this story would likely work very well, possibly with a similar feel to Game of Thrones but without the fantasy elements, as it’s set in a convincingly medieval world. However, the main reason this anime deserves a live-action adaptation is to present Thorfinn’s story in a fresh way, because the manga and anime formats alone don’t quite do justice to how incredible the story really is.
1) Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan is a truly exceptional anime and manga, known for its complex story and deeply moving characters. A live-action version would be a great way to introduce the story to people who don’t typically watch anime. The series lends itself well to a live-action format, and real actors could bring even more emotional impact to the story than the animation allows.
The characters in Attack on Titan represent a remarkably diverse group, drawing inspiration from various cultures around the world. Many fans, including us, are particularly eager to see this anime adapted into a live-action series, believing it has the potential to be even better than the original animation with the right approach.
