10 Best Marvel Superheroes Introduced in the ’10s

The Marvel Cinematic Universe dominated the box office and received widespread critical acclaim, fundamentally altering the film industry. This success wasn’t limited to movies; Marvel’s comic books also thrived with fresh stories and characters that pushed boundaries. A defining feature of the decade was Marvel’s focus on passing the torch to new heroes, building on the foundations of its most iconic characters. The 2010s saw the emergence of a new generation of heroes, embracing diversity while honoring Marvel’s rich history.

10) Gwenpool

Gwenpool, who first appeared in 2015, is one of the most unique characters in the Marvel Universe. Originally created as a popular illustration on variant comic covers inspired by the success of Ghost-Spider (an alternate version of Gwen Stacy), Gwenpool became a fully-fledged character due to her popularity. Gwendolyn Poole, a comic book fan from a universe similar to our own, somehow ended up in the Marvel Universe and became the mercenary known as Gwenpool. She’s famous for directly addressing the reader and breaking the fourth wall in inventive ways. Notably, Gwenpool is also Marvel’s first character to openly identify as both asexual and aromantic.

Marvel has a unique pair of heroes: Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Originally, this team consisted of the primitive Moon Boy and the powerful Devil Dinosaur. She uses her genius to create advanced technology and fight crime with Devil Dinosaur, and their adventures are so popular that they even have a Disney Channel show!

8) Nova (Sam Alexander)

In 2013, a new hero named Sam Alexander took on the role of Nova. Sam is the son of Jesse Alexander, a former Nova Corps peacekeeper who had fallen on hard times. After Jesse disappeared, Sam found his father’s Nova helmet, which gives him a powerful super-suit with abilities like super-strength, flight, and energy blasts. Sam quickly became popular with fans because his exciting adventures across the galaxy were combined with the everyday challenges of being a teenager – dealing with school, crushes, and self-doubt.

Over time, Ironheart has become increasingly popular, dedicating herself to protecting others while also battling her personal struggles.

Back in 2014, Marvel introduced another character who gained powers from a radioactive spider – the same one that gave Spider-Man his abilities. Cindy, a classmate of Peter Parker, was also bitten, and an enigmatic figure named Ezekiel took her into hiding to keep her safe from the dangerous villain Morlun. Spider-Man didn’t find out about her for thirteen years, discovering her in a hidden bunker. After re-entering the world, Cindy became the superhero Silk. Thanks to years of training with Ezekiel and a remarkably precise Spider-Sense, she’s become one of New York City’s strongest and most skilled web-slingers. Silk is a compelling and multifaceted new hero who has quickly become the star of several successful comic book stories.

5) Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes)

Robbie Reyes first appeared in 2014 and has quickly become one of the most well-known Ghost Riders in recent years. A skilled mechanic, Robbie was murdered but resurrected when the spirit of his uncle, Eli Morrow, possessed him. Instead of the traditional flaming motorcycle, Robbie fights crime in a car powered by hellfire, called the Hell Charger. Although he doesn’t have the typical “Spirit of Vengeance,” Robbie still possesses all the classic Ghost Rider powers, like creating weapons from thin air and using the terrifying Penance Stare. Robbie has become a popular hero, joining the Avengers and is even predicted to one day become the ultimate cosmic Ghost Rider. Fans have embraced Robbie, and he’s sure to be featured in many exciting stories to come.

America Chavez, also known as Miss America, made her debut in Marvel Comics in 2011, bringing incredible multiversal powers and representing LGBTQ+ and Latinx communities. Let me tell you about Spider-Gwen, a character who really surprised me. Introduced in 2014, this isn’t your average Spider-Man story. We’re talking about Gwen Stacy, Spider-Man’s lost love, getting a second chance – as a hero herself! But here’s the twist: she’s from another universe, Earth-65, where she was the one bitten by the radioactive spider. Originally known as Spider-Woman in her world, she quickly became ‘Ghost-Spider,’ and honestly, she’s been a huge hit. Her look is fantastic, she’s genuinely fun, and her stories often pack an emotional punch. She’s been a key player in those awesome multiversal Spider-Verse teams, and her popularity has grown so much that Marvel brought her into the main Marvel universe – Earth-616 – where she’s now protecting New York City alongside Peter Parker. It’s a brilliant move for the character, and I’m excited to see where they take her next.

Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, burst onto the scene in 2014 as Marvel’s first prominent Muslim superhero. As a unique Inhuman with mutant abilities, Kamala quickly resonated with readers, becoming a beloved character for a new generation thanks to her charmingly awkward personality and teenage experiences. Inspired by the original Ms. Marvel, Carol Danvers, Kamala took on the mantle to defend her hometown of Jersey City with her powers of stretching and creating hard-light objects. Since her debut, Ms. Marvel has appeared in many comics, movies, TV shows, and video games, solidifying her place as a truly iconic Marvel hero.

1) Spider-Man (Miles Morales)

The introduction of Miles Morales in 2011 revolutionized the world of comic books. Originally from an alternate universe, Miles was a young Black teenager from Brooklyn who gained Spider-Man-like powers – and some new ones, like generating electricity and becoming invisible – after being bitten by a special spider. When the Peter Parker of his universe died a heroic death, Miles stepped up to become the new Spider-Man, carrying on his legacy. Miles quickly became incredibly popular, almost as well-known as Peter Parker, and eventually moved into the main Marvel universe. He then became the star of the popular Spider-Verse movies. Miles is a courageous, kind, and down-to-earth character who truly deserves to be Spider-Man.
