Warner Bros. Reportedly Dismissed a Black Superman Movie For Being “Too Woke” (But DC Might Still Make It)
Prior to the merger between Warner Bros. and Discovery, the studio was working on two distinct adaptations of Black Superman. The initial project was a movie collaboration between Coates and Abrams, planned as an individual film set in an alternate universe. The second venture was a limited series for HBO Max, spearheaded by Michael B. Jordan’s production company, Outlier Society. This series focused on the comic book character Val-Zod, and in October 2021, it was revealed that Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters were hired to write the script. Both initiatives sparked considerable enthusiasm among fans, but they ceased development after the corporate reorganization and the appointment of Gunn and Safran to head the newly established DC Studios.
