10 Marvel Villains That Can’t Stand Spider-Man, Ranked By Their Hatred

Spider-Man is a hugely popular hero for Marvel Comics. He helped launch Marvel to success in the early 1960s when Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider. Since then, he’s become one of their most iconic characters, teaming up with almost every other hero. Over the years, he’s made many friends, though his constant joking and wisecracks can sometimes be irritating, even to those who like him. Villains, however, find him even more annoying.

Let’s be honest, Spider-Man really gets under the skin of his enemies. I’ve been watching these Marvel villains for a while now, and the animosity towards him is intense. It’s not just about losing a fight; he actively taunts them, always seems to ruin their plans, and, well, delivers a lot of painful punches. This isn’t a simple rivalry; it’s a full-blown, scorching hatred that seems to consume them entirely. These ten villains? They really despise Spider-Man, and it’s clear to see why.

10) Sabretooth

Sabretooth is best known as Wolverine’s greatest enemy, but he’s clashed with many other heroes too. He originally fought Iron Fist and has faced Spider-Man on multiple occasions. Victor Creed is driven by intense hatred, and he particularly despises Spider-Man. He’s quick to anger, so anyone who attacks him while also taunting him quickly becomes a target. Furthermore, because Spider-Man and Wolverine are now close friends, Creed would likely hate Spider-Man simply because of their connection.

9) Doctor Doom

Doctor Doom is considered Marvel’s most formidable villain, and he’s fought nearly every major hero over the years. He has a long-standing rivalry with Spider-Man and genuinely despises him. Doom is easily angered by mockery, which Spider-Man frequently uses as a tactic. While Doom acknowledges Spider-Man’s intelligence, he’d rather defeat him than endure constant taunting.

8) The Vulture

For years, the Vulture and Spider-Man have been fierce enemies. Adrian Toomes turned to crime after being cheated by a business partner, hoping to provide for his family. Spider-Man repeatedly thwarted his plans, and this fueled Toomes’s resentment. Driven by bitterness over his misfortunes, Toomes specifically targets Spider-Man, enjoying any harm he can inflict on the hero.

7) The Jackal

I remember when Miles Warren was just a professor at Empire State University – a really brilliant guy. He was completely smitten with Gwen Stacy, and when she died, he just… broke. He convinced himself Spider-Man was responsible, and that’s when everything went wrong. He started cloning Gwen, and even Spider-Man himself! Ever since, he’s become obsessed with ruining Spider-Man’s life, and he was a major player in the whole Clone Saga. It’s not about money or even a rivalry for him anymore; Spider-Man drove him completely insane. He truly believes Spider-Man took the woman he loved, and in his mind, that justifies any awful thing he does to hurt him. He’s beyond reason, just fueled by this twisted sense of justification.

6) Tombstone

Tombstone has become a more significant problem for Spider-Man recently. For years, he’s been trying to climb the ranks of New York City’s criminal underworld, and he blames Spider-Man for every setback. This has fueled an intense and growing hatred for the hero. While he’s not likely to become one of Spider-Man’s most dangerous enemies, his animosity is incredibly strong.

5) Carnage

Carnage is now considered one of Spider-Man’s most dangerous enemies. Cletus Kasady, a ruthless killer, bonded with an alien symbiote, giving him the power to act on his violent impulses. Spider-Man consistently thwarts his plans, making him Carnage’s primary target – second only to Venom. Kasady despises all of humanity, but Spider-Man’s constant interference has earned him a special, high-priority spot on Carnage’s list of people to kill.

4) Kingpin

Wilson Fisk, known as the Kingpin, is New York City’s most powerful crime boss. Though he’s famous for fighting Daredevil, Spider-Man was actually the first superhero he ever battled. When Daredevil isn’t around, Spider-Man is a major enemy, and Kingpin intensely dislikes him, wanting to destroy him. He’s infuriated by Spider-Man’s taunts, his heroism, and the problems Spidey has caused him over the years. Fueled by rage and hatred, Kingpin becomes incredibly dangerous whenever he faces Spider-Man.

3) Kraven the Hunter

Kraven the Hunter became famous for his incredible hunting abilities. After encountering Spider-Man, he saw the hero as the ultimate challenge. They fought numerous times over the years, with Spider-Man always winning. This fueled Kraven’s resentment, as he felt humiliated by losing to someone he considered beneath him. This ultimately led to the storyline “Kraven’s Last Hunt,” where he brutally defeated Spider-Man, buried him alive, impersonated the hero for a night, and then took his own life. Since then, clones of Kraven have been created, and they share the original’s intense hatred for Spider-Man. Sergei Kravenoff’s life was irrevocably altered by his encounters with the Wall-Crawler, and his obsession twisted him into a darker version of himself.

2) Doctor Octopus

Doctor Octopus is among Spider-Man’s earliest and most formidable enemies. While Otto Octavius and Peter Parker share similarities – both are brilliant scientists – their rivalry runs incredibly deep. Over time, Doc Ock has developed a fierce hatred for Spider-Man, holding him responsible for every misfortune in his life since their initial confrontation. He feels mocked, hurt, and utterly ruined by Spider-Man’s actions. In return, Doc Ock has committed extreme acts, including attempting to marry Peter’s aunt and even killing him, briefly taking over his life. He’s willing to do anything to defeat Spider-Man, and it’s unlikely their conflict will ever be resolved.

1) Green Goblin

As a longtime Spider-Man fan, I’ve always been fascinated – and terrified – by the Green Goblin. Norman Osborn isn’t just a villain; he’s Spider-Man’s arch-enemy, fueled by a deep-seated hatred. It’s heartbreaking to think about how his existing mental instability was made even worse by the Goblin formula, and how that, combined with his hunger for power, turned him into such a dangerous foe. They’ve been locked in this epic struggle for so long, and Osborn has become a true nightmare for Peter Parker. He’s responsible for some of the worst moments in Spidey’s life – the death of Gwen Stacy, the whole Clone Saga… it’s a long list of pain he’s caused. While he’s currently trying to be a better person, having had his darkness stripped away, I can’t shake the feeling it’s only temporary. That burning hatred will likely resurface, and he’ll inevitably try to destroy Spider-Man again.
