Superman is usually portrayed as the perfect hero, always kind and selfless, using his incredible powers to help people. But in the vast DC Multiverse, there are countless alternate realities, and many versions of Superman aren’t heroic at all. These evil Supermen often explore the idea that unlimited power can corrupt anyone, showing how someone with such abilities could commit terrible acts. With no one able to challenge them, these dark versions of Superman have conquered and killed without mercy.
Across the DC Multiverse, some Supermen have committed terrible acts – from genocide to attempts at world domination – driven either by warped beliefs or simply a desire to cause suffering.
10) Red Son Superman

The Superman from Earth-30 demonstrates how even good intentions can lead to terrible outcomes. He crash-landed in Ukraine in 1938 and was raised to serve the Soviet Union. Despite his efforts to be a fair hero, gaining power after Stalin’s death corrupted him. Influenced by Brainiac, he began expanding Russia’s control globally, suppressing any opposition. He even used Brainiac’s technology to perform lobotomies on criminals. Eventually, he realized his mistakes and pretended to die to end his attempt to conquer the world, but not before stripping countless people of their free will.
9) Tangent Superman

In an alternate reality known as Earth-9, Superman is actually Harvey Dent, who gained telepathic and telekinetic powers after being part of a government experiment. For years, he used these abilities to help people, but after a series of devastating disasters, he seized control of the planet, becoming a tyrannical ruler. He used his powers and a team of superpowered followers to suppress any opposition, arresting, torturing, and killing those who resisted. He even attempted, unsuccessfully, to conquer the primary DC Universe. It ultimately took a combined effort from heroes across both universes to defeat this dictatorial version of Superman.
8) Justice Lord Superman

On another Earth, President Lex Luthor killed the Flash, driving Superman to finally defeat Luthor with his heat vision. But this victory came at a cost. Superman and the Justice League then seized control of the planet, establishing a harsh and oppressive government. Calling themselves the Justice Lords, they ruled through fear, with Superman using his heat vision to mentally subdue anyone who opposed them. They even tried to conquer other Earths, including attempting to kill the Flash on Earth-12, demonstrating how dramatically the once-heroic Superman had changed.
7) Superdoom

On Earth-45, unchecked corporate power and greed resulted in a terrifying version of Superman. Known as Superdoom, this being was created by merging Superman with Doomsday using a reality-bending machine. Superdoom became the ultimate symbol of corporate ambition, used by the powerful Overcorp to take over the world and establish a brutal dictatorship. However, his goals didn’t stop at one planet—Superdoom launched a multiversal war, hunting and killing other versions of Superman across different realities, even consuming them. From supporting a fascist government to eliminating countless heroic Supermen, Superdoom poses a serious threat to the entire multiverse.
6) Injustice Superman

Similar to the villainous Superman from another universe, this Superman was driven to tyranny by a single tragedy. On Earth-49, the Joker manipulated him into accidentally killing Lois Lane and their unborn child, then destroyed Metropolis with a nuclear bomb. Consumed by rage and a thirst for revenge, Superman killed the Joker and established a harsh, controlling government, claiming it was for the people’s safety. People lived in fear, forced to obey Superman’s every command. During his rule, he brutally killed thousands of innocents, including many former allies like Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, and even the young hero Shazam.
5) Overman

In an alternate reality (Earth-10), the Nazis won World War II with the help of a super-powered being named Overman. Raised by the Third Reich after landing in Nazi-occupied territory, Overman became their most powerful weapon and led them to conquer the United States by 1956. He was responsible for countless deaths during the war, but surprisingly, he was unaware of the Holocaust. When he learned about the Nazis’ systematic genocide, he was deeply shocked to realize he had unknowingly supported it. Driven by guilt, Overman began helping the Freedom Fighters, a rebel group, and provided them with information that led to the destruction of Nazi-controlled Metropolis, hoping to spark a revolution. Despite his attempts at redemption, Overman could never fully escape the weight of the millions of lives lost due to his actions.
4) Dark Multiverse Superman

The Dark Multiverse contains universes where things have gone horribly wrong, creating nightmarish realities. In one such universe, Earth -1, Superman unexpectedly begins a brutal and senseless killing spree. It’s revealed that this Superman was secretly a sadist who had been posing as a hero. He murders countless heroes and innocent people. To stop him, Batman deliberately infects himself with the Doomsday virus, transforming into a powerful monster capable of defeating the evil Superman. Although his reign of terror was short-lived, this version of Superman still callously killed many, including his wife, Lois Lane, without any regret.
3) Ultraman

Ultraman, the Superman of Earth-3, is one of the most brutal and cruel beings in the entire multiverse. Even as a child, after landing in Kansas, he used his powers to force the Kents to raise him, ultimately destroying them when he lost interest. As a member of the Crime Syndicate, he participated in the conquest of Earth, causing the deaths of tens of millions. Despite ruling their own world, the Syndicate enjoys inflicting pain and death on others. They even managed to take control of the main DC Universe during the Forever Evil storyline, and it took a united front of heroes and villains to defeat them. Ultraman has also traveled the multiverse, killing versions of Superman from other realities.
2) Last Sun

The villainous Batman Who Laughs creates a new multiverse, and within it, a terrifying version of Superman comes to be. Instead of a direct flight from Krypton, this Superman’s rocket travels through countless suns, imbuing him with immense solar energy. This power corrupts him, turning him into a being driven only to consume energy and destroy. He obliterates his own planet and becomes a devastatingly powerful ally of the Batman Who Laughs in the fight for control of everything.
1) Superboy-Prime

Superboy-Prime came from a world much like our own – one without superheroes. But during a massive crisis, he discovered he had incredible Kryptonian powers and helped DC’s heroes save the universe from a powerful villain. Sadly, when the universe was rebuilt, his home world was erased, and he was deeply traumatized. This led him to become unstable and embark on a destructive path, wiping out entire worlds and killing countless heroes, including other Superboys and Supermen. While he’s recently tried to make amends, he remains responsible for an unimaginable number of deaths.
