These aren’t just for characters without superpowers—even powerful heroes like Superman sometimes wear advanced alien armor to become even stronger. Here’s a look at some of the most powerful armors created throughout the DC universe.

10) Darkstar Exo-Mantle

The Darkstars are a dangerous, galaxy-wide police force created by the Controllers, who are related to the Guardians of the Universe. The Controllers formed the Darkstars with the goal of replacing the Green Lantern Corps as the universe’s primary peacekeepers. Darkstar members wear powerful Exo-Mantle armor that grants them incredible strength, speed, the ability to fly, and energy weapons. Most frighteningly, the Exo-Mantle can disrupt a Green Lantern’s energy, making it easy to destroy their constructs. Thanks to their numbers, strong armor, and ruthless methods, the Darkstars nearly defeated the Green Lanterns in a full-scale war. Although they eventually lost, the Darkstars’ armor allowed them to kill many Green Lanterns during the conflict.

9) Insider Suit

While Batman is known as the Justice League’s most famous member without superpowers, there was a time he wore a suit that gave him abilities similar to his teammates’. After seemingly returning from death during the Infinite Crisis, Batman used a special suit to secretly watch over Gotham City before revealing he was back. This “Insider Suit” granted him superhuman strength, the power of flight, access to the Speed Force, the ability to fire green energy beams, and even invisibility and intangibility. If you’re building a suit meant to defeat an incredibly powerful enemy, it needs to both withstand and inflict massive damage. Lex Luthor’s Warsuit is his greatest creation – constantly upgraded to challenge Superman’s abilities. Powered by a highly advanced computer from a New God and an almost limitless energy source called a Mother Box, the suit is heavily armed. It boasts weapons like missiles, blades, a teleporter, Kryptonite lasers, and even a device that can flatten opponents into two dimensions. While Superman ultimately defeats it every time, the Warsuit is unbelievably durable, capable of surviving a planetary explosion. It’s also allowed Luthor to go toe-to-toe with powerful cosmic threats such as Brainiac, Larfleeze, and Doomsday.

Considering Superman’s incredible strength, it’s surprising he’d ever need armor. But when General Sam Lane attacked the Fortress of Solitude with an army and weapons designed to harm Superman, he put on a special suit. This ‘Unchained Armor’ actually makes Superman even stronger and better protected, capable of deflecting weapons meant to hurt him. It also includes a powerful hammer and shield to boost his attacks and defense. It’s a remarkable achievement for any suit to enhance Superman’s power, and the Unchained Armor successfully does just that.

4) Hellbat Armor

The Hellbat Armor is Batman’s most powerful weapon, created to help him fight seemingly unbeatable enemies. He discovered this massive, incredibly advanced armor – built from a substance called Element X, which is essentially solidified imagination – created by his counterpart in a different reality. The suit grants him the ability to warp reality itself. With limitless energy and the power to create anything he needs, the Final Batsuit could easily defeat the entire Justice League. It allows Batman to control minds, change matter, teleport across the universe, and even move stars with his thoughts. Essentially, when Batman thinks something while wearing the Final Batsuit, it instantly becomes real.

1) Superboy-Prime’s Solar Armor

Superboy-Prime is an incredibly powerful and dangerous character who constantly puts the entire universe at risk. Even when he was locked up and stripped of his powers, he managed to break free and create a suit – the Solar Armor – that made him even stronger. This armor is based on technology used to contain a major villain called the Anti-Monitor, making it almost impossible to destroy.
