The Marvel Universe is always facing danger from villains like evil geniuses, alien overlords, and powerful, destructive gods. While female villains used to be sidekicks or seductive tricksters, now many of Marvel’s most dangerous characters are women with their own plans to take over the universe. These women are incredibly powerful – capable of destroying entire planets! When they appear, teams like the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four have to fight their hardest to protect Earth and all of reality. They represent the biggest threats to Marvel’s heroes and everything they stand for.
Marvel has a lot of powerful female heroes, and equally powerful female villains. Ranging from magical witches to terrifying creatures, here’s a look at some of the most dangerous women in the Marvel universe.
10) Goblin Queen

Madelyne Pryor, created as a clone of Jean Grey by the villain Mr. Sinister, initially thought she was the original Jean. But when the real Jean Grey reappeared after Madelyne married Cyclops and had their child, Madelyne experienced a severe identity crisis that led to her madness. This resulted in her becoming the Goblin Queen, a recurring enemy of the X-Men. As a clone, the Goblin Queen shares all of Jean Grey’s powerful mutant abilities, like telepathy and telekinesis. She also gained the ability to use dark magic through a demonic pact. With this immense power, the Goblin Queen has repeatedly threatened Earth and even briefly ruled the realm of Limbo.
9) Selene

Selene is one of the oldest mutants alive, having secretly planned for over 17,000 years. As a powerful member of the Hellfire Club, she maintains her youth by absorbing the life force of others, much like a vampire – a touch can even turn people to dust. Beyond this, Selene is a powerful pyrokinetic and telepath, and a skilled magic user. She can summon creatures, fire energy blasts, teleport, and even resurrect the dead, abilities that would make her a contender for the title of Sorcerer Supreme. Her immense power allows her to take on the entire X-Men team by herself.
8) Enchantress

Amora the Enchantress is one of Thor’s most well-known and powerful enemies. Over thousands of years, she’s become a master of magic, capable of casting a huge variety of spells. These allow her to teleport, fly, create illusions, project energy, read minds, move objects with her mind, travel through time, reanimate the dead, change matter, and even alter reality itself. While she’s known for using her powers of seduction to control others, Enchantress has recently become even more formidable. She’s learned to wield Uller’s Secret Fire, an ancient magic that lets her manipulate stories and the very fabric of the universe. With this power, she can strip Thor of his abilities and control the course of history and destiny.
7) Hela

Hela, the Norse Goddess of Death, is a terrifying figure throughout the Nine Realms. She rules the realms of Hel and Niffleheim, commanding an army of undead creatures. Like other Asgardians, Hela is incredibly strong and immortal. Having lived for millennia, she’s also a remarkably powerful sorceress with complete control over life and death. She can instantly destroy enemies, steal souls, and raise vast numbers of undead warriors. As the ruler of Hel, Hela is a force to be reckoned with, even compared to other powerful demonic rulers like Mephisto, and their potential conflict poses a danger to the entire multiverse.
6) Umar

Dormammu rules the Dark Dimension with immense power, but he frequently clashes with his equally powerful twin sister, Umar. They were once exiled from their home world, after which they seized control of the Dark Dimension. While Dormammu became the primary ruler, Umar is a formidable sorceress and a major enemy of Doctor Strange. She’s capable of teleportation, controlling the weather, changing matter, reading minds, moving objects with her mind, manipulating darkness, and absorbing energy. As one of the most powerful magic users ever, Umar has demonstrated incredible feats, including blasting energy through the Earth, creating storms that span dimensions, and even briefly claiming the power of Eternity after helping Dormammu defeat its previous owner.
5) Eldest

The Eldest is one of the Hulk’s most dangerous enemies, a terrifying creature inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. As the offspring of an ancient being called the Mother of Horrors, she doesn’t have a body of her own and needs to attach herself to others to live. She’s incredibly powerful, with abilities including telepathy, energy blasts, shapeshifting, and magic. The Eldest has even created chains from the fabric of the very first universe and managed to separate the Hulk from Bruce Banner – she’s currently possessing the Hulk’s body! Becoming even stronger after absorbing her mother’s power, she can now transform people into monsters and summon massive creatures. However, many of her greatest accomplishments involved taking power from others, meaning she isn’t quite as strong as the top four villains on this list.
4) Death

Death, often depicted as the grim reaper, is one of Marvel’s oldest and most powerful villains. As the literal embodiment of death, she’s an immortal who wants to end all life. She often works through her devoted follower, Thanos, who craves her affection. Even without Thanos carrying out her plans – like eliminating half the universe – Death is incredibly powerful, easily controlling life, death, and reality itself. She’s a fundamental part of the universe’s balance, and her power rivals that of other cosmic entities like Eternity, Infinity, and Oblivion.
3) Griever at the End of All Things

While Death handles the end of individual lives, the Griever at the End of All Things operates on a far grander scale. She is the embodiment of decay and the ultimate end of everything, possessing unbelievable cosmic power. She’s easily destroyed entire universes, even defeating beings as powerful as Cthon, Death, Molecule Man, the Scarlet Witch, and a diminished Franklin Richards. Surprisingly, despite this immense power, she struggles to focus on and eliminate smaller, weaker targets. However, her ability to erase universes should never be underestimated.
2) Dark Phoenix

Jean Grey is one of the original members of the X-Men and an incredibly powerful mutant with exceptional mental and telekinetic abilities. After a near-fatal experience saving her teammates, she became connected to the Phoenix Force – a cosmic entity representing the cycle of death and rebirth in the universe, and one of the most powerful forces imaginable. This immense power, combined with manipulation by the Hellfire Club, caused the Phoenix Force to become unstable and transform into the dangerous Dark Phoenix. As Dark Phoenix, this entity unleashed its limitless power, destroying entire star systems and posing a threat to the entire multiverse. Fortunately, Jean has since regained control of the Phoenix Force.
1) Mother of Horrors

It’s hard to even wrap my head around it, but before anything was, there was Vinruviel – they call her the Mother of Horrors. She’s a truly terrifying being, something straight out of a Lovecraft story, and unbelievably powerful. What’s even more mind-blowing is that she wasn’t created by the One Above All, the being who made everything in the Marvel Universe! In fact, she was the only one who could actually hurt him. She even managed to make him bleed, and used his blood to create the One Below All, an even more horrific entity. She’s had countless monstrous children, like the Eldest, though they’re just tiny pieces of her immense power. Even after being imprisoned for billions of years, she’s still incredibly strong. I’ve read that, inside the Hulk’s mind, she could defeat every version of the Hulk at the same time! It’s a scary thought.
