Green Lantern is one of the most recognizable and strongest hero roles in the DC universe. There are many Green Lanterns on Earth, and the Green Lantern Corps includes thousands of members from across the galaxy. Using Power Rings that create anything the wearer imagines, Green Lanterns work to keep peace throughout the universe. This large and powerful group is essential because the DC Universe is full of incredibly powerful villains who constantly try to conquer or destroy everything. These villains, coming from the furthest corners of space, have killed countless Green Lanterns – dozens, if not hundreds.
Green Lanterns are essentially space police officers, so they often encounter criminals in space, some of whom are really frightening.
10) Atrocitus

Atrocitus, the leader of the Red Lanterns, is consumed by an endless, fiery rage. He’s the only one who survived a devastating massacre committed by the Manhunters, and he channeled his intense hatred to create the very first Red Lantern Rings. Empowered by his ring, Atrocitus is incredibly strong and can unleash streams of burning plasma and napalm, incinerating his foes. Unlike most Red Lanterns, he can also create solid constructs, which he uses to deadly effect. With this immense power, Atrocitus has defeated and killed countless Green Lanterns, members of the Sinestro Corps, and even several of the Guardians of the Universe – he’s even managed to subdue the embodiment of rage itself, known as the Butcher.
9) Manhunters

As a longtime follower of the DC universe, I’ve always found the backstory of the Manhunters fascinating – and terrifying. Before the Green Lanterns were even a glimmer in the Guardians of the Universe’s eye, these robotic beings were their first attempt at galactic police. It didn’t go well. The Manhunters went haywire, nearly wiping out everything in Space Sector 666, and now they’re dedicated enemies of the Lantern Corps. What makes them truly frightening isn’t just their strength – a single Manhunter can go toe-to-toe with a Green Lantern and even break through their energy constructs – but their cold, calculating intelligence. They’ve taken down countless Lanterns and entire civilizations, and believe me, they’re not planning on stopping until every living thing is gone. They’re a genuinely chilling threat.
8) Sorrow

Few feelings are as powerful as utter despair. Sorrow, the embodiment of sadness, spreads this feeling to others like dark clouds. Even the strongest heroes can be overcome with deep depression when facing his power. At his most powerful, Sorrow managed to overwhelm the entire Green Lantern Corps and their central power source, trapping thousands in despair. They were only saved because Sorrow sacrificed himself to free them. This makes him one of the few beings ever to single-handedly defeat the entire Green Lantern Corps.
7) Larfleeze

The Orange Lantern Corps is unique – unlike other Lantern groups with thousands of members, there can only ever be one Orange Lantern, and even the Guardians of the universe fear its power. Driven by pure greed, the sole member, Larfleeze, keeps all of the Corps’ incredible energy for himself. Not only does he control the power of an entire Corps, but his ring also allows him to capture the souls of his enemies and past Orange Lanterns, transforming them into an army of constructs. Larfleeze can summon hundreds of thousands of these powerful soldiers. He’s proven his strength by defeating Guardians, destroying Manhunter armies, corrupting Hal Jordan, and even overcoming Atrocitus, so it’s no surprise he refuses to share his power.
6) Sinestro

Sinestro is a major villain in the DC Universe and a formidable enemy of the Green Lantern Corps. He was once a powerful Green Lantern himself, but his desire for control drove him to create his own group, the Sinestro Corps. This Corps’ power source is fear, which Sinestro expertly uses to dominate others. Responsible for countless deaths, Sinestro is incredibly powerful, consistently rivaling top Green Lanterns like Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner, and easily defeating many weaker ones. Uniquely, Sinestro has even managed to control Parallax, the embodiment of fear itself.
5) Black Hand

The Black Lantern Corps is considered the most terrifying force in the universe, powered by the energy of death. Its leader, Black Hand, is a formidable villain who can raise an army of zombies and kill with a single touch using his Black Lantern ring. During the ‘Blackest Night’ storyline, he resurrected hundreds of fallen heroes, creating an almost unbeatable army. He’s even controlled the Spectre, a being representing divine anger, and has defeated powerful heroes like Hal Jordan and outrun the Flash. Black Hand has even turned an entire planet into stone. With his ring and vast undead army, he posed one of the biggest threats the DC Universe has ever faced.
4) Parallax

Green Lanterns are vulnerable to fear, and Parallax is the embodiment of it. As one of the most powerful beings in the universe, Parallax originated at the dawn of time from a specific energy of the electromagnetic spectrum. He doesn’t just inspire fear – he can cripple people with it, destroy entire planets, control minds, and even manipulate time. He’s infamous for taking over Hal Jordan and using him to wipe out the Green Lantern Corps and its leaders, the Guardians. Beyond that, Parallax has defeated incredibly powerful beings like the Spectre, controlled Superman, stopped a massive wave of anti-matter, erased a whole timeline, and almost completely reset the universe.
3) Krona

Krona is one of the most powerful and dangerous villains in DC Comics, and he’s responsible for creating the entire multiverse. Originally a member of the species that later became the Guardians of the Universe, Krona built a machine to witness the beginning of time. Instead, it exploded, fracturing reality into countless universes. This event transformed him into a being of pure energy focused on destruction. Krona possesses incredible mental and energy-based powers, making him a threat to all existence. He’s committed horrific acts, including imprisoning powerful entities like Parallax, killing many Guardians of the Universe, controlling the Green Lantern Corps, and even destroying entire universes and planets. His power is so vast that he’s been able to defeat even some of the strongest heroes in both the DC and Marvel universes, including Galactus.
2) Volthoom

As a longtime follower of the Lantern mythos, let me tell you about Volthoom – the original Lantern. He wasn’t like any of the Lanterns we know today. While most of us focus on one emotion, Volthoom tapped into all of them, the entire Emotional Electromagnetic Spectrum! It’s no surprise that much power drove him insane; he was obsessed with bringing back a world he’d lost. Seriously, this being was almost all-powerful and all-knowing – he could rewrite history, destroy planets, control people’s souls, and even remake the universe! He casually beat Kyle Rayner as a White Lantern, Sinestro with Parallax’s power, all the Guardians of the Universe, and hundreds of Lanterns working together! The only way anyone managed to stop him was when Hal Jordan as a Black Lantern, alongside Nekron, actually removed the Emotional Spectrum from him. It was the only thing that worked!
1) Nekron

Nekron, the being who embodies death and commands the Black Lantern Corps, started a never-ending war to destroy all life after learning about the existence of multiple universes. As an immortal and abstract entity, Nekron is undefeatable, drawing his immense power from the nothingness before creation itself. He can bring the dead back to life, kill with a single touch, alter reality, and unleash blasts of black lightning. Nekron has withstood attacks from incredibly powerful beings like the Anti-Monitor, absorbed the energy of Captain Atom, and even defeated a Guardian of the Universe, as well as fighting the entire White Lantern Corps. His true form is beyond human understanding, and he’s a fundamental part of how the multiverse functions.
