10 Most Powerful Members of the Superman Family, Ranked

Over the 80+ years of Superman comics, a large group of supporting characters have become almost as famous as Superman himself. Similar to Batman, Superman developed a ‘family’ of heroes – including relatives from his home planet, Krypton, and others inspired by his bravery. This ‘Superman Family’ is incredibly powerful, protecting not just Metropolis but the entire DC multiverse. Here’s a look at the strongest members of this impressive group.

For years, Superman thought he was the only survivor from the planet Krypton. But he later discovered and reconnected with relatives he’d believed were lost when their home world was destroyed. Over time, his family expanded with new allies and through his marriage to Lois Lane. With Kryptonians and other super-powered individuals joining their ranks, the Superman Family has become the most powerful superhero family in the DC Universe.

10) Superwoman (Lois Lane)

Lois Lane, the fearless reporter for the Daily Planet, usually investigates stories without any superpowers. But on occasion, she’s gained the incredible abilities of a Kryptonian – even temporarily taking on the powers of General Zod after the events of Absolute Power. When Lois has these powers, she fights alongside her husband, proving herself capable against some of Superman’s toughest enemies, like the Eradicator, X-El, and Doomsday. Though her powers don’t last, whenever Lois gains them, she becomes one of the most powerful figures in the DC Universe.

9) Conner Kent

Conner Kent, also known as the second Superboy, is incredibly powerful. Though created from the genetic material of both Superman and Lex Luthor, he consistently uses his abilities for good. He’s strong enough to fight powerful beings like Knockout and keep up with super-speedsters like Impulse. What really makes Conner unique within the Superman family is his tactile telekinesis – the ability to control things he touches. This gives him a strong protective force field and lets him do things like instantly destroy heavy machinery or release energy blasts as powerful as over 5,000 pounds of TNT.

8) Mon-El

When Mon-El first arrived on Earth, a young Superman thought he was a Kryptonian due to their shared powers from yellow sunlight. However, Mon-El is actually a Daxamite, a race very similar to Kryptonians. The main difference is that while Kryptonite doesn’t affect Daxamites, they are weakened by lead. After a near-fatal encounter with lead, Mon-El was sent to the 30th century to receive medical care, eventually becoming a powerful member of the Legion of Superheroes. He occasionally travels back to the present day to assist other members of the Superman Family. Mon-El is incredibly strong, consistently demonstrating cosmic-level power and often matching Supergirl in terms of sheer strength.

7) Jon Kent

Jon Kent, the son of Superman and Lois Lane, is destined to be even greater than his father. Known by names like Superboy, Superman, and Tomorrow Man, he’s already one of DC’s most powerful heroes. Like other Kryptonians, he has incredible strength and abilities, but Jon also has unique powers, including the ability to generate and fire powerful electrical blasts. He can see beyond the normal range of light, and has demonstrated incredible feats of strength, such as stopping a tsunami with a sonic boom, effortlessly destroying massive robots, and even slightly altering the Earth’s rotation. He’s even managed to hit the villain Ultraman with a blow stronger than any he’d previously experienced. According to Batman, with enough time and training, Jon will eventually surpass Superman and become the most powerful hero in the universe.

6) Supergirl

Besides Superman, Supergirl is the most well-known member of the Superman family. Originally, she was older than Superman, but a problem with a wormhole during Krypton’s destruction caused her to be frozen in time. She arrived on Earth years after Superman, having been in suspended animation. While not as powerful as Superman, Supergirl is an incredibly strong and skilled hero, trained by the Amazons. She’s demonstrated incredible feats of strength, like destroying small moons, flying so fast she risked damaging space-time, and withstanding a nuclear explosion without injury. She’s also a formidable fighter, capable of seriously injuring powerful opponents, and even came close to defeating a villain who threatened multiple universes.

5) Power Girl

I’m a huge Power Girl fan, and honestly, she’s incredible! She’s basically Supergirl, but from another Earth – Earth-2 – and she’s been through a lot more, making her way stronger and more experienced. She’s ended up staying in our main DC Universe, and it’s clear she’s on a whole other level than Supergirl; she’s even beaten her in fights a few times! What really sets her apart is her ability to punch open portals to anywhere in the universe. I mean, she’s done some seriously amazing things – like punching Wonder Woman all the way from Washington D.C. to Canada! She’s even made Darkseid bleed and lifted an entire city-sized spaceship. She’s taken down heavy hitters like Kingdom Come Green Lantern and a Superman from another universe too. Honestly, Power Girl absolutely earns that name – she’s a powerhouse!

4) Red Son

Red Son, one of the Super-Twins, was rescued from Warworld by Superman and became his adopted son. Both twins are Phaelosians, a group related to Kryptonians who survived when Krypton was destroyed. Like other Kryptonians, Red Son has powers from Earth’s yellow sun, plus the ability to project energy. However, he gained even more power when infused with the Fire of Olgrun, a piece of an incredibly powerful ancient god. Olgrun was almost unstoppable, able to create and destroy planets and even surpass beings like Highfather and Darkseid. Red Son is still learning to control this immense power, but he’s already proven its strength by defeating Desaad, a loyal follower of Darkseid, and even bringing himself back to life.

3) Starchild

Otho-Ra, also known as Starchild, is the twin sister of Red Son and was raised by Superman and Lois Lane. Like her brother, she’s a Phaelosian with incredible strength, rivaling even Kryptonians. Starchild often looks after her brother and can shape blue energy into weapons like swords and axes. She eventually gained a portion of Olgrun’s power, but instead of just becoming stronger, she transformed into a being of death. Now wielding the Wrath of Olgrun, Starchild is the new Black Racer, acting as a grim reaper for everyone—even the gods. She possesses all the Black Racer’s abilities, including a touch that can instantly heal or kill. Given that even Darkseid fears the Black Racer, Starchild is equally dangerous.

2) Superboy-Prime

Superboy-Prime is one of the most powerful and frightening beings in the DC Multiverse. He originally came from a universe where superheroes were just fictional characters, but he developed Kryptonian powers during a massive crisis. Unlike other members of the Superman family whose powers were weakened after this event, Superboy-Prime remained incredibly strong, retaining the immense abilities of classic Superman stories. He’s demonstrated this power by destroying entire universes, altering reality with a single punch, and even injuring incredibly powerful villains like the Anti-Monitor and the Darkest Knight. He’s even broken the boundaries of his own comic book world! While he used his power for evil for a long time, Superboy-Prime has recently changed his ways and is now cautiously being accepted into the Superman Family.

1) Superman

Superman is widely considered the original and most iconic superhero in DC Comics. His incredible abilities, combined with his unwavering dedication to helping others, have allowed him to accomplish feats that surpass almost any other comic book character. He’s survived being squeezed between planets, lifted an impossibly heavy book, created shockwaves through dimensions with a single punch, and even destroyed entire universes. Remarkably, Superman can’t even be erased from existence – he’s essentially the foundation upon which reality itself is built, thanks to his immense power and inspiring nature. He isn’t just the strongest in his family; he’s one of the most powerful figures in all of modern storytelling.
