10 Most Unkillable DC Supervillains, Ranked

One thing most comic fans agree on is that characters rarely stay dead, especially in DC Comics. Villains, in particular, have a habit of returning from the grave as if nothing’s changed. Some are simply too powerful for DC’s heroes to permanently defeat. Whether it’s due to immortality, incredible healing abilities, or their otherworldly origins, these villains are essentially eternal and impossible to kill, making them consistently formidable threats.

Superheroes sometimes break their rule against killing to stop villains for good, but these villains often keep coming back to life, even after being completely destroyed. This constant threat keeps the DC Universe in danger.

10) Vandal Savage

Vandal Savage is a ruthless immortal who has lived for tens of thousands of years. He first lived as a caveman 50,000 years ago and gained immortality after being exposed to radiation from a crashed meteorite, eliminating his fear of death. Throughout history, Savage has relentlessly pursued world domination, taking on the identities of famous figures like Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, and Blackbeard. Remarkably, he has survived countless attempts on his life – from being stabbed and beaten to poisoned, blown up, and even falling from space. In some possible futures, Savage continues to live without aging, reaching the 853rd century.

9) Cyborg Superman

Astronaut Hank Henshaw died after being bombarded with dangerous cosmic energy, but his mind survived. He was reborn as a being of pure energy, able to inhabit and control any machine as a new body. This is how he became the Cyborg Superman, with powers matching those of Superman. However, Henshaw is fundamentally an energy consciousness, making him virtually indestructible. Even if his current robotic form is destroyed, he can simply transfer his mind to another machine, and he can do this across vast distances – he’s traveled the entire universe searching for a new host.

8) Reverse-Flash

Ironically, the Flash unintentionally made his greatest enemy, Reverse-Flash, impossible to kill. When Reverse-Flash went back in time, the Flash tried to save his mother, which sparked the events of Flashpoint. This change separated Reverse-Flash from the normal flow of time, turning him into a paradox. As a result, Reverse-Flash can’t be harmed by changing the timeline and is essentially immortal – no matter how many times he’s defeated, he always returns. Not even a being as powerful as Doctor Manhattan could permanently destroy him. This ability made Reverse-Flash the Flash’s most dangerous and enduring foe.

7) Doomsday

Doomsday is a supremely powerful creature designed to be the perfect lifeform, and he’s relentlessly focused on destroying all life. He’s strong enough to kill Superman, but his incredible ability to heal means he can recover from almost any injury. What makes him truly terrifying is his retroactive immortality: if he’s killed, he not only comes back to life, but also becomes immune to whatever defeated him. Every attempt to destroy Doomsday ultimately makes him stronger and an even bigger danger to the universe. Through repeated deaths – being beaten, torn apart, and even vaporized – Doomsday has become nearly impossible to defeat.

6) Eclipso

Eclipso is a powerful and evil being, once an angel of God, now a force of pure destruction. He’s infamous for causing the great Biblical flood and remains a threat even after being banished from Heaven. His spirit is trapped within a diamond called the Heart of Darkness, and anyone who touches it while feeling strong anger risks being possessed. While a host body can be defeated, Eclipso simply retreats back to the diamond, which is virtually indestructible. People have tried everything to destroy it – breaking it apart, melting it, even throwing it into the sun – but Eclipso always survives, waiting for another chance to escape.

5) Trigon

Trigon is a supremely powerful and purely evil being, the father of Raven and ruler of Azaroth. He’s conquered numerous galaxies within his own hellish realm and seeks to use Raven to invade Earth. As one of the most powerful demons and magic users in the DC Universe, Trigon is incredibly difficult to destroy. He can easily alter reality and fight DC’s most powerful heroes. Even severe injuries, like having his heart torn out, don’t stop him for long, as he can rapidly heal and regenerate. Destroying his entire body and soul only temporarily contains him, as he’ll eventually reform within his home dimension.

4) Anti-Monitor

The Anti-Monitor is an incredibly powerful being who poses a threat to the entire universe. Existing for billions of years, he has wiped out countless worlds using waves of antimatter. Even when weakened in our dimension, he’s strong enough to withstand attacks from all the heroes across multiple Earths. Most cosmic beings in the DC Universe can’t even harm him. What’s even more frightening is that, like his counterparts, the Monitor and World Forger, he can completely rebuild himself even after being destroyed, ensuring a continuous cycle of destruction and renewal.

3) Darkseid

Darkseid is the most powerful villain in the DC Universe, far exceeding the strength of Earth’s heroes. He’s immortal and can withstand attacks that would destroy entire universes, making him an incredibly powerful opponent. However, the Darkseid most often seen battling the Justice League is just a fraction of his true self. The real Darkseid exists on a higher plane of existence and is the embodiment of evil itself – completely invulnerable to any physical harm. His very presence poses a threat to the entire DC multiverse. Even when defeated, Darkseid always returns, relentlessly pursuing his goal of total domination.

2) Mr. Mxyzptlk

Despite his unassuming appearance, Mr. Mxyzptlk is one of the most powerful beings in the entire DC Universe. This fifth-dimensional imp possesses nearly limitless power, able to alter reality with just a thought. He’s completely invulnerable to any physical harm. The only thing that can stop him is a self-imposed rule: if he speaks or writes his name backward, he’s sent back to his own dimension. However, this isn’t permanent – he always returns to cause more trouble. Even the most powerful cosmic beings are no match for this mischievous trickster.

1) Nekron

It’s impossible to truly destroy death, and Nekron is its living embodiment. As the creator of the Black Lantern Corps, he draws limitless power from the void before existence began. He once used this power to create an undead army – the Black Lanterns – that almost wiped out all life. Because Nekron isn’t truly alive, he can’t be permanently killed. Even if destroyed, he’ll simply reform in his own dimension and start a new plan to control everything. Just like death itself, Nekron’s return is unavoidable.
