Caution: spoilers ahead for The Boys season 5.
Okay, let me tell you about the upcoming showdown in The Boys Season 5. It all comes down to power, plain and simple. Homelander has completely taken over – he’s not just strong, he controls Vought and basically runs the country now, with an army of people powered up by Compound-V. But it’s not a total loss for the good guys; they’ve got some seriously powerful players ready to fight back, and things are about to get explosive.
Now that Prime Video’s The Boys is wrapping up, it’s noticeable how much the power levels of the characters have shifted since the beginning. Some once-powerful heroes like Queen Maeve and Black Noir have lost their strength, while others, such as Starlight and Ryan, have become much more powerful. Plus, a few characters who were ordinary humans in season one have now gained superpowers by using the V compound.
10. A-Train
In season 3 of The Boys, A-Train faced a serious problem: he couldn’t run without collapsing, which made it seem unlikely he’d ever be considered one of the show’s most powerful heroes. Running was his superpower, so this was a major setback. But after receiving a heart transplant, A-Train regained his speed and strength. Though he only appears in one episode of season 5 before his story ends, that episode showcases him performing at his absolute best.
In Season 5, A-Train discovers he can use his super speed to slow down time, allowing him to rescue his friends and stop Homelander incredibly quickly. This leads to a race between the two of them, which A-Train would have won if he hadn’t prioritized saving a woman’s life over crossing the finish line.
9. Kimiko
Throughout The Boys, Kimiko has consistently demonstrated her incredible power, and season 5 is no exception – she quickly defeats Sheline. While Kimiko is already a remarkably skilled fighter, her ability to regenerate is what truly sets her apart. The show hasn’t shown us the full extent of her healing, and it’s possible she doesn’t have a limit. In season 5, Kimiko recounts how she was able to put herself back together even after being scattered miles apart, and even Homelander’s attack, which severed her lower body, barely slowed her down.
By now, Kimiko is incredibly resilient – even destroying her brain might not be enough to stop her. It seems the only things that could actually kill her would be something extremely powerful, like Soldier Boy’s energy blast, or the super-virus.
8. Cindy
As Homelander tries to take complete control of the U.S., he’s eliminated or intimidated most of his strongest supporters. Weak followers like The Deep, Firecracker, and Dogknott stay with him simply because they want to feel important. Cindy is different. She has powers comparable to Victoria Neuman and Marie Moreau, allowing her to quickly and violently defeat opponents – she even easily destroyed Stan Edgar’s heavily fortified door.
Cindy is fiercely loyal to Homelander, but it stems from a strong urge to inflict harm. She’s essentially a powerful weapon he points at his enemies. Her biggest weakness is a lack of training; she relies solely on her natural abilities. With proper guidance and practice, she could become an even more formidable superhuman.
7. Billy Butcher
Billy Butcher received a dose of Compound-V, which triggered a change in his existing cancer caused by frequent Temp-V use. This resulted in tentacles growing inside his chest, and surprisingly, they’ve become a valuable asset. He’s used them to overpower opponents like Victoria Neuman and even Soldier Boy, and they’ve made him stronger than Kimiko.
Billy Butcher knows he can’t defeat Homelander in a direct fight – if he could, he’d simply walk into Vought Tower and destroy him. However, with his enhanced abilities, Butcher would be a terrifying opponent for the rest of Homelander’s team, pushing them to their absolute breaking points.
6. Starlight
A fight between Starlight and Billy Butcher would be very close, but Starlight would likely win because she’s more adaptable. She’s strong enough to fight Black Noir II and even defeat Cindy, and her ability to create light has become even more powerful since the end of season 3. Plus, her newfound ability to fly makes her even more formidable – she’s already proven herself capable enough to join the Seven.
As a huge fan of The Boys, I’ve been thinking about who Homelander would really go after if all-out war breaks out, and it’s definitely Starlight. It’s not about power levels, it’s about her one consistent weakness – something she’s struggled with since day one. Basically, take away the light, and Annie’s powers become seriously limited. Remember how Stan Edgar toyed with her? A simple light switch is practically her kryptonite, and she needs an external energy source just to do something basic like break down a locked door. It’s a surprisingly vulnerable spot for someone so powerful.
5. Sister Sage
Strength isn’t just about physical power, and Sister Sage in The Boys proves that. While she doesn’t seem to be a fighter, her intelligence is incredibly powerful. She was the key person who got Homelander into the White House, and she’s still pulling strings in season 5. It’s not yet clear what her ultimate goal is, but right now, she’s controlling events, and no other superpowered person – on either side – can match her strategic mind.
Sage isn’t a strong fighter, but she’s incredibly clever about avoiding fights altogether. As long as she continues to outsmart her opponents, Sister Sage will likely be one of the most powerful supes in season 5 of The Boys, and she might even be the one most capable of defeating Homelander. The true potential of her powers is limited only by her own creativity and what she decides to do with them.
4. Marie Moreau
Marie Moreau from Gen V has similar powers to Victoria Neuman and Cindy, but her education at Godolkin University – especially being trained by Thomas Godolkin – has made her significantly more powerful. Because she was part of Project Odessa and given Compound-V like Homelander, she’s nearly as strong as the main villain from The Boys.
Marie has a uniquely dangerous ability: she can manipulate blood, allowing her to kill in several creative ways – stopping hearts, forming blood weapons, or even causing internal collapse. Because Homelander is still made of flesh and blood, Marie is one of the few characters in The Boys who could potentially kill him using only her powers, without needing things like viruses or radiation. She can also easily revive fallen allies by returning their lost blood to their bodies.
3. Ryan Butcher
While Ryan isn’t as strong as Homelander right now, the show The Boys suggests he could eventually surpass him. In season 2, Ryan easily cut through Stormfront when Homelander could only slightly injure her with his lasers. More recently, in season 5, Ryan managed to draw blood from Homelander, who noticeably began dodging his son’s laser vision, seemingly wanting to avoid a direct hit.
Although Ryan hasn’t had nearly as much training or experience as Homelander, his current strength in The Boys is still incredibly intimidating.
2. Soldier Boy
Soldier Boy isn’t particularly complex; he mostly uses his incredible strength and toughness, and loves to talk about the famous people he’s met. But years of experiments have given him a dangerous ability: he can use radioactive blasts to strip other super-powered people of their abilities, making them human and destroying anything nearby.
In season 5 of The Boys, Soldier Boy gets even more powerful. It’s revealed he’s one of the few people who received V-One, the very first and strongest version of Compound-V. This original formula only worked on a small number of people, making Soldier Boy incredibly durable – almost impossible to kill, even with the supe virus.
1. Homelander
As expected, Homelander is still the most powerful hero in season 5 of The Boys. His strength hasn’t really changed since the series began, and it didn’t need to. He’s physically stronger and as fast as A-Train, incredibly resistant to injury, and his heat vision can easily defeat most other supes. This combination of powers is precisely why he’s such a threat and the main obstacle in the show’s final season.
Okay, so Homelander isn’t exactly a genius, and even having the President basically wait on him doesn’t fix that. He’s way too wrapped up in himself and his feelings to really be strategic. But let’s be real, when it comes to just being a terrifying force, he’s unmatched. Seeing him bring Soldier Boy back in season 5 really hit me – it showed he knows he could take down anyone, even his own ‘dad,’ if he wanted to. It’s chilling!
