10 Things to Remember Before Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution

The devastating Shibuya Incident threw the world of Jujutsu Kaisen into complete disarray. With Satoru Gojo sealed away and many lives lost, the Jujutsu Higher-Ups are taking advantage of the chaos to strengthen their control and harshly punish anyone they see as a problem. As the heroes struggle to recover from their devastating defeat and understand the aftermath of Kenjaku and Sukuna’s actions, Yuji Itadori once again finds himself fighting for survival.

To get ready for Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution and the upcoming Culling Games arc, it’s helpful to remember the major losses, betrayals, and power changes that have impacted the characters we care about.

10) The Stay on Yuji’s Execution is Revoked

Satoru Gojo’s agreement with the Jujutsu Higher-Ups – which protected Yuji Itadori from execution as long as he continued absorbing Sukuna’s fingers – ended when Gojo was sealed away. Gojo was the only reason Yuji was still alive; his immense power meant no one else dared to challenge him. Following the disaster in Shibuya, the Higher-Ups now see Yuji as a dangerous and intolerable threat.

With his reprieve canceled, Yuji is now considered a criminal by all in the jujutsu world, forcing him to go into hiding and evade capture. Despite the risk – assisting him is now considered an act of betrayal – his friends and allies remain loyal, believing in his good heart and continuing to support him.

9) Jujutsu High Principal Masamichi Yaga is Sentenced to Death

The leaders of the Jujutsu world ordered Principal Masamichi Yaga’s execution as part of their effort to eliminate anyone who might oppose them. They claimed he caused the Shibuya Incident, but this wasn’t true. The real reason for the order is that Yaga was a strong supporter of Gojo, and he was the only one who knew how to create powerful, intelligent cursed spirits like Panda.

Those in power are trying to hide the secret of creating cursed corpses, a technique only Yaga knows how to do. They want Yaga gone because they fear other sorcerers will learn from him and create powerful, independent cursed corpses like Panda, which could challenge their authority. They’re not just eliminating threats; they’re also destroying valuable and dangerous knowledge.

8) Gojo Was Sealed in the Prison Realm By Kenjaku

At the peak of the battle in Shibuya, Satoru Gojo was captured and sealed away by Kenjaku, an extremely old and powerful sorcerer inhabiting the body of Gojo’s former friend, Suguru Geto. Kenjaku used a potent cursed object called the Prison Realm to trap Gojo, creating a barrier that seemed impossible to break.

Kenjaku needed to eliminate Gojo above all else because his immense power and influence made him unbeatable. Sealing Gojo was the key moment in the Shibuya Incident, causing chaos in the jujutsu world and setting off a chain of events – including the Higher-Ups’ new rules and the beginning of the Culling Game.

7) Releasing Gojo From the Prison Realm is Decreed a Crime by the Jujutsu Higher-Ups

Knowing that freeing Satoru Gojo from the Prison Realm would likely lead to devastating consequences and a complete power shift, the Jujutsu Higher-Ups made it a capital offense to even try to rescue him. This law cemented their authority while Gojo was imprisoned and effectively silenced anyone who might have remained loyal, as helping him meant certain death.

This decision means anyone trying to rescue Gojo will be considered a criminal. It creates major problems for Gojo’s friends and allies, including Yuji, Megumi, Yuki, Yuta, Maki, and Toge. Now, those who support Gojo have to figure out how to break into the incredibly secure Prison Realm without getting caught.

6) Yuta Okkotsu Returns and is Named as Yuji’s Executioner

In a surprising turn of events, Yuta Okkotsu, a powerful sorcerer featured in the movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0, has returned to Japan after being abroad in Africa. The higher-ups of the jujutsu world have tasked him with a difficult job: executing Yuji Itadori. This is particularly noteworthy because Yuta is known for his kindness and dedication to helping others, and he’s also a student highly valued by Gojo, a very powerful sorcerer.

As the battle in Shibuya ended, Yuta announced his plan to kill Yuji (who was currently hosting Sukuna) as revenge for the harm done to his friend, Toge Inumaki. This announcement kicks off the central conflict of Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution, because Yuta is the second strongest jujutsu sorcerer after Gojo, and he’s now officially tasked with killing a student he knows.

5) Nanami Dies at Mahito’s Hands

Everyone was devastated when Kento Nanami, a popular first-grade sorcerer, died during the intense battle in Shibuya. He was already badly hurt and burned from fighting a powerful curse when Mahito attacked. Mahito used his unique ability to touch and instantly destroy Nanami’s body, and Yuji Itadori was forced to watch.

Nanami’s last words – telling Yuji to continue on without him – deeply affected the young sorcerer, who greatly admired Nanami as a teacher. This painful loss now strongly motivates Yuji, solidifying his dedication and fueling both his sadness and anger as he moves forward.

4) Yuji Finally Killed Mahito

Yuji Itadori, aided by Aoi Todo, finally won a tough battle against Mahito. Mahito fought with everything he had, transforming himself completely before Yuji ultimately defeated him, leaving him on the brink of collapse.

In his last moments, Mahito was consumed by Kenjaku, stopping Yuji from landing the finishing strike he wanted. Despite this, Yuji’s decisive win against the curse who caused him so much suffering represents a major step forward in his development and brings a long, painful conflict to a close.

3) Sukuna Has an Unknown Plan for Megumi Fushiguro

After possessing Yuji’s body and unleashing a brutal attack, Sukuna surprisingly healed Megumi Fushiguro, even though Megumi had almost killed himself with his most powerful technique. Sukuna stated he needed Megumi alive for a mysterious, larger purpose and wouldn’t allow him to die.

This shows Sukuna is interested in more than just causing Yuji pain. He’s specifically targeting Megumi because of his immense, hidden power – particularly his Ten Shadows Technique. This technique is incredibly rare and historically significant, as it’s the only one known to have ever defeated a member of the powerful Gojo clan, even one possessing both Six Eyes and Limitless.

2) Megumi Finally Calls on the Untamed Shikigami, Mahoraga

To defeat the incredibly powerful cursed spirit known as the Finger Bearer, Megumi Fushiguro made a risky move and summoned his most potent shikigami, Mahoraga. This powerful spirit was legendary for being untamable – not even the skilled sorcerers of the Zenin clan, who shared Megumi’s unique abilities, had ever been able to control it.

Using Mahoraga was a last-ditch, incredibly risky move, because the creature can adapt to any attack and is nearly impossible to defeat. Megumi hoped it would destroy both himself and the curse he was fighting, but it actually showed just how powerful – and dangerous – his technique truly is, hinting at abilities far beyond what anyone had seen.

1) Nobara Kugisaki’s Status is Unknown

I watched in horror as Nobara faced off against Mahito. He landed a blow with his Idle Transfiguration, and it was awful. The curse hit the side of her face and eye, and I could see it immediately start to twist and change her features. It was a truly devastating injury, and looked incredibly serious.

Nobara was taken away for urgent medical care, but it wasn’t confirmed whether she had died at the scene, leaving her condition uncertain. This has left Yuji and Megumi, her closest friends, with many unanswered questions. While her possible loss is a huge setback for the team, the fact that her fate isn’t completely certain offers a small amount of hope.
