Although action-packed battle shonen like Jujutsu Kaisen are incredibly popular right now, anime offers a wide variety of stories. While the isekai genre (stories about being transported to another world) is also well-liked, finding truly great series within it can be tough. The genre is broad, with many subcategories, and not everything appeals to everyone. However, when people discuss the best isekai anime ever made, Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World consistently comes up. It’s a hugely popular series on Crunchyroll and consistently ranks as one of the highest-rated isekai shows, based on the light novel by Tappei Nagatsuki with illustrations by Shinichiro Ootsuka.
The anime adaptation of a popular novel, which first came out in 2016, quickly became a huge success when it was released two years later. This year celebrates the anime’s 10th anniversary, though only three seasons have aired so far. A fourth season is scheduled for release in April 2026. Recently, the author confirmed on X that the story is now entering its second half. While it’s uncertain if this second half will be as lengthy as the first, fans can expect the story to continue for several years.
What Is Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World About?

This anime is well-known for its surprising twists, imaginative world, and exciting action sequences. The story follows Subaru Natsuki, a regular high school student who is suddenly transported to a different world after leaving a convenience store. Lost and with only a small bag, Subaru desperately tries to understand what’s happening.
Stranded and constantly getting into trouble, he finds a possible turning point when he meets Satella, a beautiful and enigmatic girl on a quest to recover something she lost. Grateful for her help, he volunteers to join her search. Little did they know, this simple mission for a common thief and a mysterious girl would quickly lead them into grave danger.
When Subaru and his companion entered the thief’s home, they were killed by an unknown attacker. Subaru, thinking he was finished, discovered he had a remarkable ability: he could travel back in time after dying, remembering everything that happened before. He now uses this power to protect the people around him and find his place in this new world, constantly reliving and changing events.
