Anime and manga aimed at young boys, often called “Shonen,” is incredibly popular and known for its diverse and captivating stories. While many Shonen series focus on action and fighting, the genre includes everything from fantasy to adventure. Fans love these shows for their creative plots, unique power systems, and well-developed characters. However, Shonen series sometimes receive criticism for unsatisfying endings. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood stands out as an exception and remains a leader in the genre. It’s based on Hiromu Arakawa’s 2001 manga and serves as a remake of the 2003 anime series.
The first anime adaptation of this story differed greatly from the original manga, which led to criticism of the studio for changing key plot points. Because the manga wasn’t finished at the time, the studio created their own ending. Fortunately, a new anime series, more closely following Arakawa’s original story, premiered on April 5th, 2009. Now, 17 years later, it’s still considered one of the most highly acclaimed anime of all time.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Has One of The Best Endings of All Time

For years, this anime was the highest-rated show on MyAnimeList, but it was eventually surpassed by Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End and hasn’t reclaimed the top spot. Despite this, fans still love the series as much as ever. The story follows the difficult quest of the Elric brothers, who are trying to restore their bodies after breaking a fundamental rule. Their only chance lies in finding a Philosopher’s Stone, a legendary item that can overcome the core principles of alchemy.
Their investigation uncovers a frightening reality about their nation and its military, revealing a threat to many innocent people. The story wraps up satisfyingly, resolving all plot points and giving each character a fitting conclusion, including the Elric brothers, who look towards a hopeful future as the country rebuilds after the military’s downfall. In just 64 episodes, the anime delivers a captivating story, perfectly balancing action, adventure, comedy, and suspense.
