19 Years Later, Forgotten Suspense Anime Gets Major Streaming Update

The highly anticipated Spring 2026 anime season has arrived, bringing with it a fantastic selection of shows and movies. Major streaming platforms are already offering the biggest titles, and as usual, Crunchyroll is leading the way with a huge number of series. It’s the go-to place for anime fans worldwide, offering nearly all new releases with both subtitles and dubbing. While Crunchyroll carries most of the new anime each season, HIDIVE also offers a fresh selection of titles every month. Though they don’t often premiere brand new shows, HIDIVE is well-known for bringing back older, sometimes forgotten, anime series and making them available to Western audiences.

HIDIVE has announced that all 22 episodes of the anime series Ghost Hound will be available to stream starting April 22nd. You’ll be able to watch it with subtitles or with English dubbing. Along with this addition, HIDIVE is also adding and removing other shows. Even as April ends, the platform continues to offer a selection of hard-to-find anime for U.S. viewers.

What Is Ghost Hound About?

The story’s initial idea and design came together in 1987, and the animated version was eventually released as part of the studio’s 20th anniversary celebration. Masamune Shirow, a highly respected writer known for Ghost in the Shell, also created a short manga adaptation with art by Kanata Asahi. This manga debuted in 2007, shortly before the anime’s release. However, like the anime, the manga didn’t achieve widespread popularity internationally. It was originally published in Comic Blade.

I’m totally hooked on this story! It takes place in Suiten, this little mountain town where the line between our world and the spirit world is seriously blurred. Strange things are always happening there – ghosts and other paranormal stuff are just part of everyday life, but it’s getting worse. It follows three middle schoolers – Taro, Makoto, and Masayuki – each of whom is dealing with some tough stuff from their past. They’re the first to realize how weird things are getting, and they decide to get to the bottom of it. Their investigation leads them right into the spirit world itself, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Often called the Unseen World – a place humans aren’t meant to go – the boys find themselves able to enter it with ease. They soon discover that the source of their past traumas is hidden within this mysterious realm. As the story unfolds, they encounter a Shinto priest and his daughter, Miyako, and become increasingly entangled in the strange happenings. The narrative combines psychological horror with intricate ideas and traditional Japanese folklore.
