2 Mortal Kombat II Post-Credits Scenes Were Written – Why They Weren’t Used Officially Revealed [Exclusive]

The new movie Mortal Kombat II hit theaters on May 8th and appears to be performing well, following in the footsteps of the first film. Writer Jeremy Slater has revealed that several extra scenes, meant to play after the credits, were actually written for the sequel but won’t be included in the final cut. These scenes involved bringing multiple characters back to life.

Director Simon McQuoid spoke with ComicBook about Mortal Kombat, explaining why the film didn’t include a scene after the credits. He said he wrote a few different options for such a scene, but they never made it to filming. While the movie is visually impressive with great special effects, the production budget wasn’t unlimited. They had to be careful and strategic about what they filmed to get the most impact for their money.

The Written Post-Credits Scene Could Have Contradicted Mortal Kombat III

We initially had ideas for scenes after the credits, but ultimately decided they weren’t worth the cost. The story for the third movie was still evolving, and we were concerned that committing to a post-credit scene would lock us into a plot that might not be the right one. Thankfully, we didn’t finalize the story for the third film too early. If we had, it would have been very different from the script we’re working on now, and we would have felt restricted by our earlier promises.

The new Mortal Kombat II movie is bringing back many popular characters like Kitana, Johnny Cage, and Quan Chi, and even resurrecting some others. The film follows the battle to save Earthrealm, with Johnny Cage teaming up with other fighters to defeat the ruthless Shao Kahn in the tenth Mortal Kombat tournament. Early reactions are very positive, with audiences giving it a 90% approval rating.
