2 Movies in 64-Year-Old Franchise Hit Netflix’s Top 10, and It Eases the Wait for Their Biggest Returning Show

As a huge movie and TV fan, I’m always checking out what’s new on Netflix. They’ve got so many popular series like Stranger Things, The Witcher, and Bridgerton, but it’s cool they also bring back older favorites like Stargate SG-1 and Power Rangers. Recently, two movies from a franchise that’s been around for 64 years suddenly jumped into Netflix’s Top 10, which is a nice distraction while we all wait for the next season of one of their biggest hits!

This week’s list of the most popular movies on Netflix has a couple of surprises: both The Addams Family and The Addams Family 2 made the Top 10! The Addams Family landed at number four with 5.3 million views, closely followed by The Addams Family 2 at number five with 5.2 million views. With a third season of the Wednesday series in the works, fans can enjoy these fun animated Addams Family movies while they wait for the next installment.

The Addams Family Animated Movies Carved Out Their Own Lane

Fans still fondly remember the classic Addams Family series, and the earlier movies helped bring the franchise back to popularity. After a quiet period, a new animated Addams Family movie came out in 2019, celebrating the family’s unique and quirky personality.

The movie focused on the relationships within the main family, and also gave larger roles to several extended family members, including a voice performance by Snoop Dogg as Cousin Itt. Made for just $24 million, the film earned over $200 million globally. The sequel had a similar budget, and although it made $119 million, it was still a profitable venture.

The follow-up to the original came out in 2021, and a year later, Netflix released the incredibly popular series Wednesday. The show was an immediate success, quickly bringing The Addams Family back into the public eye. Wednesday draws inspiration from the original series and all the previous movies, including the animated ones – this is particularly noticeable in how the family interacts, with Gomez resembling his animated counterpart. However, some familiar faces are missing – there’s no lion or Cousin Itt in Wednesday, so fans are hoping to see them appear in season 3.

The good news about the start of filming for season 3 is that the show will avoid the long delays that plagued season 2 – a problem many streaming series, like Netflix’s Stranger Things, have faced. Wednesday’s first season came out in 2022, but season 2 wasn’t expected until mid-2025. Because season 3 is filming now, we can likely expect a new season in late 2026 or early 2027, meaning shorter waits between seasons and helping the show maintain its popularity.

The Addams Family films and Wednesday are streaming on Netflix.
